Jhargram Mini Zoo remains closed on Thursday. General timing is from 9 am to 5 pm and charges Rs.20/- per adult. There is total mammal count of 187 with 16 different species. Reptiles are in abundance of 153 counts with 12 species. The total numbers of birds are 74 with 18 different species. About the ZOO :
Junglemahal Zoological Park earlier known as Jhargram Zoo has been established as a Deer Park in the year 1980, within a patch of natural forest at Khasjungle mouza, J.L No. 395 under Dhabani Beat of Jhargram Division at Jhargram. Subsequently, it was recognized as Jhargram Zoo (Small Category Zoo) on 9th September 2005 by Central Zoo Authority with the objectives of scientific management, conservation breeding of endangered species, high standard of maintenance for the welfare of captive animals, and also to develop empathy amongst the citizen of the area towards wildlife conservation, following the accepted norms and standard as framed by CZA. The vision of Junglemahal Zoological Park is to showcase the Biodiversity of Lateritic Eco-System.

At present Junglemahal Zoological Park has 147 Nos. Mammals, 65 Nos. Birds, 147 Nos. Reptiles. The total area of the Park is 21.54 hectares. It is about 3 Kms from Jhargram town. It is surrounded by Shal Tree (Shorea robusta). Designed around a jumbo lake, it homes ruminant, snakes, peacocks, bears, crocodiles, black rabbits, and varied kinds of monkeys, additionally to many categories of trees. A forest makes a small Zoo in this locale; visitor can find a lot of diverse types of natural animals and Birds here.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
The months of April and May are hot, while June, July, August and September sees the downpour of rainy months. The months from October to March are the best time to visit Jhargram.

HOW TO REACH
The Jhargram Mini Zoo is 3km away from the Jhargram railway station. It is almost 16 km from NH6. The roads are well constructed leading to the zoological park. The nearest airport is at Kolkata which is 160km away from the zoo. There are buses from all the nearby towns and cities such as Kharagpur, Medinipur, Asansol, Bankura, Purulia, Kolkata and many more.
