Oigawa Railway (known locally as Daitetsu) is famous both with rail enthusiasts and families for its steam locomotives and in Japan is probably the closest to what in other countries are known as “Heritage Railways”, although it is a regular railway.

It is also famous for its Thomas the Tank Engine events.

The Oigawa Railway operates two lines in Shizuoka Prefecture that run along the Oigawa River valley, an area that is famous for growing tea.

The railway’s Ikawa Line is also the only railway line in Japan that is operating ABT Rack Railway section. In fact the Ikawa Line is another aspect of the Oigawa Railway that makes it interesting!
