I wanted to see if I could find homeless people in China, because I have been seeing a lot of videos from the US (my home country) about the growing/continuing problem of homelessness in the US. Housing prices and recreational activities (along with other issues) have caused many people to experience homelessness in the US, but why don’t these issues affect China the same way? I give three reasons that I think are the main factors that contribute to this problem in both counties.
I’m walking around Beijing, but I have been to many places in China and I have never seen “Tent Cities” or large groups of homeless people. There are homeless people here, but the government and society work with these people to help them.
What do you think? Do you have a large homeless population in your country? Leave a comment below and let me know.

You bring the truth about how we think and live in the US, and you are right!… “Individualism” is one of our big problems, but Capitalism is the main problem, where people get rich by stepping in the poor, and don’t caring about nobody else but ourselves. SAD 😞
Hi, Bitten I think the main reason that there aren't many homeless people in China is the structure of Chinese society which called: urban-rural dual structure.
When economy goes well, rural people often called as "Nong-min Gong", will leave their villages, move to the cities. They either find a factory job or work in the service sector. However, it's hard for rural people to get marry and build a family in the cites, because they are still rural resident. Their kids can't go to school (kids need to go back to the village for free education), and they can't buy house in the cities. (generally in 1-tier and 2-tier cities).
When rural people leave their village, they still own the house and land in the village, when economy goes down, it's hard to find the job in the cities (sadly in 2023). They can go back to the village for a farming job or find a lower wage job in the county seat.
When economy rise again (hopefully in 2024), they will move back to the cities. easily find a high wage over there.
My friends told me it's harder to get a Beijing residency than get a U.S Green card. After I did some research, I found it to be true.
I am a chinese citizen living in the US, I lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Berkeley for many years and in these cities, homelessness is such a heart-wrenching everyday reality that at first I'm in shock to find out and in the end, sadly, I am getting used to. I used to try to find ways to help these people, by giving them some money and etc. but soon I realized that won't really help but potentially would make addictions worse. What's needed is a systematic solution to homelessness in the US. If profit is the sole consideration in a society, humanity is walking on thin ice.
Heard of rat and ant tribes n ppl are living in balcony? Go to their outskirts place, observe how they live
I dun see why a government should give life n social support to those who are willingly jobless n those drugs addicts except ppl that hv physical n mental issues n ex soldiers
China is perfect example when a country system is mixing the capitalist and communist
China build for peoples while United Sanction of Terrorist America bring Misery in the form of Sanction Coup War follow by USA looting
I've fed homeless people.
You can find the answer in the history, PRC is established from overthrow the landowners regime and distribute land to peasant, so almost every Chinese nowdays own some land(cannot trade),for those whose ancestors have lived in city before PRC established, they usually have property over 1m dollars because of the real estate price rising. So If people who come from countryside couldn't find a job, they can just back to their home, until the economic get better.
I remember around 2005, our home in the village was destroyed by the flood, and we got money from the government to rebuild our home. And in the last few years, the government also subsided to restructuring the kitchen and the toilet for the houses in the village. I have to say, our government really takes care of its people. Look at all those infrastructures built for the benefits of its people no better in urban city or country side, even in remote areas, it is definitely a merit and the government deserves a thumb up🎉 Our Chinese culture and values are just so good and gifted❤. Do good to others, and the good will eventually comes back to you. ❤
China discourages unemployed drug addicts illegal immigrants 😅😂
Well in China, there aren't that many blacks and latinos in the society, unlike here in the States, they're everywhere like vermins.
14:50 – "you still have a purpose & you're not looked down upon" – how can you idiots speak for the billions of people in China just like that, like oh everyone has the exact same mindset?? You supposedly living there fr 13 years doesn't mean jack u can make such a generalized assumption/ useless statement.
I think its also complimented with rayher low cost of living. People with even meager jobs able to save that give them a sense of safety while in US or other parts in europe people hardly manage to save anything that just keep them constantly off the fence dragging them even more into the vicious cycle of drug and other abuse. They also end up being a psycho killer or a mass shootee coz of that
China's homeless are bused to rural areas where they have no means of finances to make it back to the city. There are Tons of homeless in china. This video is also not right. I know you are trying to find a positive in and for china but THE SERPENT on youtube exposes the truth.
I watch a lot of YouTube video creators, and I don’t understand why there are so many people smearing China, but there are actually many followers who believe their lies!
You need to understand the culture of China and the way that China government treats their people (good people, not bad people) the CCP government do things for the people not like the western countries governments do things for themselves. Try to accept this fact/truth. That’s why the western is going downwards.. right?
For the homeless , you won’t see it in China. They are not “hide” in somewhere. In the old days, yes there were lots of homeless people on the streets but the government were not strong enough to help the homeless. You can see how the western treats China. That’s why China was poor in the old days. But todays China is getting stronger and stronger, you can’t see homeless people in China as the government helps them. Government is very important, they use the right strategies then it brings bright future to the people. Today’s US/Europe governments using the wrong strategies and the only brings down their only countries and giving their people nightmares.
alert Kellogg's plan soros political correctness NGO use of racism Bringing in illegal immigrants blasting nation states👍
I left China at the age of 19 for America. I have been learning so much from your videos about my motherland …. Thank you so much.
You are walking in a totalitarian state wondering where are all the homeless people…
Homeless in america chose to be homeless. Thats true freedom.
Some people want to be homeless in china but they re not allowed to. the authoritarian government dont give them freedom to do so.
1. US Federal Courts made it unconstitutional to remove homeless and encampments. (Biggest reason)
2. US Gov gives $ but doesn’t control Price so prices just go up, defeating purpose of financial aid. China controls price.
3. Loss of US jobs, especially manufacturing.
4. Drug addiction rampant in US not China.
5. Littering is not punished in US.
I am chinese, i think you said three points are correct. I born and grow up in the city, when I was a kid, there some homeless in the cities, but they disappeared may be at least ten years ago. Every chinese has ID card, there is hometown on it, it seems government would send homeless to their hometown, and give them a few money every month or negotiate the local company to hire homeless, to make sure they can alive. Since they live in the town or countryside, not too much money can gurantee to alive. By the way, serval years ago, central government decide to "eliminate poverty", the government staff must let the low income people out of poverty. It obviously violate the economics, i don't kown it's real result, I think it has been failed.
You don't see homeless people in xhina because there disappeared
