We’ve made it to Legazpi City and Mayon Volcano is literally the backdrop to almost everything you do here. Living here, you’re under constant threat of eruptions as it’s the most active volcano in the Philippines.

The day started at Bicolandia Outdoor Adventures with us riding ATVs, which had us traversing through rivers, rocky trails and forests. There was a little stop where we had the option to go for a short hike to an emergency helipad, where an unobstructed view of the volcano awaits you. …there was also another zip line we couldn’t pass up.

I wish we could go up to the observatory but currently the volcano is in some type of status that everything is closed up there. Hopefully next time I visit.

We saw a horse on a hill.

Hoyop-hoyopan cave is still used as an emergency refugee shelter. These emergencies could be disasters that come in a form of a Typhoon, Volcanic Eruption, and more.

The Cagsawa Ruins. Going way way into the past this time, the tower is all that remains from the town of Cagsawa being built in 1587, burned down by pirates in 1636, rebuilt in 1724, and destroyed again by Mayon Volcano in 1814. …they don’t build’m like they used too!

Barouqe Architecture style Daraga Church. More history and a really different style church! Because the Cagsawa Church kept getting damaged by turmoil and eruptions from Mayon, Daraga Church was built on top of a hill overlooking Mayon in 1773. Besides deterioration, it survived bombings during WWII but otherwise, I’m here enjoying it today.

Final stop on this day tour and of course there’s a sign we need to visit.. What I didn’t know was they put it in the perfect spot. 🙂
