When it comes to downsized living, Tokyo has it all. Known for its capsule hotels and compact prefabs, now the city boasts 9.46-square-meter apartments. What the rooms lack in space, however, is made up for in height — ceiling of the apartments can be up to 3.6 meters high, with windows letting in plenty of light. “So far it’s been comfortable. I keep my belongings to a bare minimum, and it’s easy to get around since everything is literally within arm’s reach,” says Sotaro Ito, an occupant of one these minuscule accommodations.
