Konnichiwa from Yamaguchi Prefecture! 👋🏻

This lesser-known prefecture will provide you with all the peace and quiet you could ask for, as well as plenty of history and natural beauty. Here are just a few recommendations for a visit to Yamaguchi.

🏯 Stroll through the narrow streets of the historical castle town of Hagi. This town played a key role in the revolution that ended samurai rule, paving the way for the modernisation of Japan.

⛩️ Walk through a tunnel of 123 red torii gates at Motonosumi Shrine. Make an offering by throwing a coin into the offering box hanging from the largest torii gate! It’s said your wish will come true if you get it in.

🚗 Marvel at the turquoise waters as you drive over Tsunoshima Bridge Tip: Before you cross, stop at Amagase Park for the best view (and photo op)!

🔦 Explore Akiyoshido limestone caves. Formed about 300 million years ago, the cave is 10km long and reaches up 80 metres high at its highest point. The first kilometre of the cave is yours to enjoy.

🐟 When in Yamaguchi, you’ve got to try ‘fugu’, or blowfish. Prepared by licensed chefs, fugu can be eaten as sashimi, deep-fried, in hot-pot and even in hot sake!
