Have you ever been INSIDE one of those huge temple statues? 🗾🏯
The Sendai Daikannon completed construction in 1991. At 100 meters (330 feet) tall, it was the tallest free-standing statue in the entire world at the time. It’s currently only the 6th tallest statue in 2022, but that’s still impressive! The statue can be found at Daikanmitsuji Temple in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
And if the size isn’t cool enough, get closer and you’ll see an entrance at the statue’s base. The entire inside of the statue is hollow so you can climb up the dizzying spiral staircase to get some nice views looking out from the inside. Oh, and there are a bunch of statues inside, too. 12 of them are based on the Chinese zodiac, so find yours and make a wish!
