The city of Tokyo has 53 public toilets per 100,000 residents, and that’s before you factor in all the washrooms at train stations and convenience stores. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that bathroom access is one of the pillars of Tokyo’s reputation for convenience. This brings us to The Tokyo Toilet project. Spearheaded by The Nippon Foundation in cooperation with the Shibuya City Government and Shibuya City Tourism Association, the project has tasked some of Japan’s most renowned architects with designing unique public bathrooms across Shibuya Ward. They’ve debuted gradually over the course of 2020 and 2021, with 12 of the 17 currently open. Swipe through and click on the link in our bio to see some of the best public bathrooms Shibuya has to offer. 📸 Alex Fisher
