Hey Fukui fans! Today, I’m back in the Reinan area of southern Fukui, near Kyoto, to get a taste of everything fun and delicious that the Five Lakes of Mikata and their surroundings have to offer!
First, at the ‘Michi no Eki’ Roadside Station, I rent a road bike and set out on a tour around the majestic lakes. On the way, I get to witness the harvest and the sorting of Fukui ‘ume’ plums. I’ll never forget the sweet smell of the fruits!
Next, I stop by a Wakasa Town eatery to try some of the (very) fresh local seafood: a squid ‘donburi’ rice bowl. You might be surprised by the looks of it!
After the tour, I walk over to the nearby Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum and learn all about how Lake Suigetsu, one of the Five Lakes of Mikata, is actually a reference for scientists worldwide as a “global standard scale for dating” archaeological items!
