The Fuji Shibazakura Festival is one of Japan’s most popular events, offering visitors the opportunity to admire a stunning carpet of over 500,000 Shibazakura (pink moss or phlox moss) set against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Fuji. The festival runs from April 12 to May 26, 2025, showcasing different varieties of Shibazakura that transform the landscape into stunning shades of pink, white, and purple. It takes place at Fuji Motosuko Resort, which is located near Lake Motosuko in the Fuji Five Lakes area. The expansive fields of blooming Shibazakura create a mesmerising sight, attracting hundreds of visitors to this annual spring celebration.

Fuji Shibazakura Festival: Timing, tickets and more

Approximately five to eight varieties of colourful flowers are in full bloom during the festival, with over 800,000 stalks on display. The many props and photo-ops include a beautiful yellow door, a pink bench, a small boat and a rainbow circle bench.

But this is not all that the festival offers. Visitors will find stalls selling small pots of pink moss and Shibazakura-themed souvenirs and a wide variety of local dishes and fresh produce. The flower festival coincides with the Mt Fuji Delicious Foods Festival, where you can taste many local Japanese specialities from different regions such as Yamanashi Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture. You can also enjoy the Peter Rabbit-themed English Garden.
To enjoy good visibility and avoid traffic, visiting the Fuji Shibazakura Festival early in the morning is best. Skipping weekends and Japan’s Golden Week holidays also helps avoid crowds. Golden Week includes four national holidays — April 29 (Showa Day), May 3 (Constitution Day), May 4 (Greenery Day), and May 5 (Children’s Day) — that fall within the same week.

There are several transportation options to reach the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, including the following:
Regular buses from Fujisan Station, Kawaguchiko Station, Lake Motosuko and Shin-Fuji Station. Buses leave every couple of hours.
The Shibazakura Liner, a shuttle bus, connects Kawaguchiko Station and the Fuji Shibazakura Festival’s venue.
