A recent poll by one of Japan’s leading online hubs for publishing entertainment and pop culture surveys has unveiled how some domestic One Piece fans rank the female characters of the hit shonen anime and manga series. The results indicate a notable lean in fan preferences, with newer characters overtaking long-established favorites.

Via Goo Ranking, Uta, the singer introduced in the 2022 anime film One Piece Film: Red, easily nabbed the definitive first-place slot, commanding the lead with 120 votes — nearly double that of Nami, the franchise’s original female lead character and long-time fan-favorite. Uta’s commanding lead may suggest some recency bias toward One Piece characters, with newcomers perhaps becoming increasingly popular among fans even when compared to long-established characters. The top 10 list can be seen below.

The poll results were released in the lead-up to the One Piece 28th serialization anniversary, and just ahead of the anime’s scheduled return in April following the show’s unprecedented six-month hiatus. The rankings also follow other recent polls in Japan, including one focused on snake-themed characters, where Boa Hancock placed second to Demon Slayer’s Iguro Obanai.

Meanwhile, One Piece itself continues to enjoy massive worldwide popularity, especially given the anime’s return to broadcast and international streaming last week. However, the manga also remains a bestseller, most recently dominating the year with its 3.2 million first-print numbers from April 2024 to March 2025, easily topping even major fellow Shonen Jump titles such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy x Family and Hunter x Hunter.
