Last month, Rotel announced the DX-3, its first-ever headphone amplifier (which can also function as a preamplifier or a standalone DAC). The brand called it the “ultimate desktop audio companion.”

Now, the heritage Japanese hi-fi company has revealed a compact integrated amplifier, called the Rotel DX-5, that’s built in the same image. Only instead of your desktop, it’s primed to be the hub of your home’s audio setup.

Primed for bookshelf speakers

The Rotel DX-5 is a stereo integrated amplifier with a full-color graphic display, large volume knob and a compact form factor similar to the DX-3. But Rotel has swapped out the front headphone jack and gain controls in favor of loudspeaker connections.

The DX-5 is a Class A/B amplifier that delivers 25 watts per channel (into 8 ohms) or 33 watts per channel (into 4 ohms). That makes it capable of driving most bookshelf speakers or larger efficient loudspeakers.

It’s powered by a custom toroidal transformer and high-current transistors, which the brand says allows it to deliver “pristine highs, detailed midrange, and deep bass.”
