Cherry Blossom Escape: Wakayama’s Coastal Beauty & Takayama’s Alpine Views | Spring Itinerary
Wakayama is not often mentioned when discussing tourist destinations in Japan. In fact, we encountered no other tourists during our visit. April is an ideal time to explore Wakayama, as the mild spring weather and blooming cherry blossoms beautifully accentuate the area’s natural charm.
Wakayama, located on Honshu’s southern coast, is known for its stunning landscapes, hot springs, and historical sites. Katsuura, a charming town along the southeast coast, is famous for its onsen, beaches, and delicious seafood. We spent a night at Hotel Urashima, where we enjoyed our first ryokan experience, soaking in a unique cave onsen while listening to the waves.
On our way back to Gifu, we stopped at breathtaking Nachi Falls, Shichirigahama Beach, and the Oni-gajo Viewpoint, taking a quick break in Gifu before heading to Takayama.
Known for its sake breweries, Takayama offers insight into the sake-making process and a chance to sample various brews, alongside beautiful parks and delightful dining options.
After exploring Takayama, we returned to Gifu and then to Nagoya before our flight back to Osaka and onward to Bangkok. It was a memorable adventure!
