Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto is the headquarters of Inari shrines across the country, and is especially dedicated to the gods known as “Inari kami.” The main deity is Uka no Mitama no Okami, who is worshiped as the god of agriculture and commerce.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is especially famous for its thousand torii gates. The torii gates are red in color and continue to surround the approach. These torii gates were donated by worshipers and companies, and the names and dates of the donors are engraved on the top of the torii gates.
The entire mountain is the precinct of the Taisha shrine, and as you climb the mountain, you will find many smaller shrines and shrines scattered about.
