First Time Driving in Japan (Fukuoka) 2024
Feeling uneasy and Anxious While Driving in Japan
Cars drive on the left side of the road, with the driver’s seat and steering wheel on the right. Road signs and rules follow international standards; most signs on major roads are in Japanese and English. Vehicles have to come to a full stop before crossing any railway tracks.
Foreigners can drive in Japan with an International Driving Permit (IDP) for a maximum of one year, even if the IDP is valid for a longer period. After one year, it is impossible to use an International Driving Permit again unless you leave Japan for at least three consecutive months in between.
