Shinshu Sky Park is located around the runway of Matsumoto Airport. The park offers a variety of picnic spots and sports amenities. The park is the finish line of the Matsumoto Marathon, which is held every November.
Matsumoto Airport is the only airport in Nagano Prefecture. Fuji Dream Airlines operates flights to three destinations: Fukuoka, Kobe, and Sapporo. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, several chartered international flights from Korea and Taiwan used to arrive at this small airport. I hope that regular flights to those cities will become available in the future.
Koboyama Tumulus, an ancient burial mound, was constructed in the late 3rd century. Artifacts excavated from the tumulus are displayed at the nearby Nakayama Cultural History Museum. The view from the top of the tumulus is fantastic. You can see the city and the surrounding mountains. It’s also well-known among locals as a spot to enjoy an abundance of cherry blossoms.
