OSAKA (大阪市) – The Food Tour

Osaka began to be referred to as “天下の台所 (tenka no daidokoro)” or “The Nation’s Kitchen” not due to its rich cuisine, but rather as a literal metaphor comparing Osaka to the common household kitchen.

During the Edo Period (1603 ~ 1868), Osaka bloomed as the logistical and commercial epicenter of Japan. There are many theories speculating as to why Osaka developed so rapidly in the first place, but some believe it may have been due to its convenient geographical location and the fact that it is located right next to Kyoto, which was the former capital at the time.

These days, “天下の台所 (tenka no daidokoro)” or “The Nation’s Kitchen” can very well be used to describe the diverse and vibrant foodie scene Osaka is well known for. My original intention was to take a break from filming and just to rest through this transit stop. As soon as I saw the food, that plan just went out of the window.
