3 Must-Try Cocktail Bars in Tokyo: Coffee, an NYC-Inspired Japanese Izakaya &… a Cellar?

Some of Tokyo’s best cocktails can be found in Shibuya! Today, we take you to three distinct, unique and even surprising cocktail bars in Tokyo.

Our first stop is æ (“ash”), a no-waste cafe and bar where baristas and bartenders whip up creative coffee-based cocktails, from various espresso martinis to Irish coffee and cold brew drinks. We then visited SG Low, a hidden Izakaya bar blending New York City’s Lower East Side and Shibuya culture, that serves creative dishes and has a rather unorthodox way of doing shots. Our final stop is SG Club, arguably the most famous of the three, voted among Japan’s 50 Best Bars & Asia’s 50 Best Bars.

  1. The bartenders are a show of skill themselves! I really enjoy Shizuka's top which is so hypnotic as well as her matching high-heels. She is so stylish!

  2. Shizuka uniquely makes every video interesting and fun. She shines over other hosts especially in these booze related videos 😁

  3. All of those bartenders have true talent!
Would love to visit all of them!
    Do they speak Texan? 😉
    If not?
    We'll figure it out!

  4. It seems like every other video y'all do is about drinking. Do you not have any other good places to eat anymore?

  5. I'm not much of a drinker but SG Club was so well done I'd definitely stop in to feel that vibe. That mac & cheese at SG Low is something I'd love to try, too. Thanks for the tour!

  6. Wow, crazy coincidence!! It’s been just hours since I came back from a short trip to Tokyo and went to all of these places, some multiple times 😅. They’re my favorite bars in the world, all super walkable from each other, really can’t recommend them enough! Also checked out SG Tavern in Ginza for lunch for the first time, super delicious as well! Perfect spots for travelers as SG Group bars have English-speaking staff and menus.

Also in that similar area is Liquid Factory with boozy milkshakes and tasty seasonal cocktails, and around the corner is The Bellwood, fantastically creative cocktail bar with a cozy 4 seat omakase sushi tasting nook. Recently they opened BW Cave upstairs if The Bellwood is full (it often is!) or if you’re looking for izakaya food with a twist and quick-pouring drinks like highballs and draft martinis!

There are plenty more Shibuya bars I’m sure I’m missing…it’s really a concentrated pocket of super creative and upscale-yet unpretentious cocktail bars. Easily my favorite place to drink in the world! Would love more recommendations from folks in the comments here too.

Glad you enjoyed these spots as much as I do, Shizuka!

  7. At 2:11: The Starbucks stores in Hawaii place used grounds back in the large foil bags it comes in, seals the bag, and leaves the bags in a large basket near the entrance. A sign explains: FREE for gardening! It's first-come, first served, but I manage to get a bag every month. I like to spread it in my yard because it not only fertilizes, but it keeps stray cats away. Not sure if Starbucks anywhere else does this.

  8. The moire from that top! I dunno about the bars since I don't drink anymore, but they seemed neat! Especially the zero waste "Fuck Waste" concept.

  9. Hey Shizzy. I don't need any cocktails. You are intoxicating. You are a delight. Have a Blessed and Beautiful Day 🇺🇸✝️🇯🇵✌️💕

  10. Holy moly 🤯 100% hitting all these up next time we're over there. So inventive… Although not sure how I'd go with a cheese cocktail, but I'd try it. For science!
Also, kinda disappointed at the start, I thought that phone booth was an entryway for a speakeasy 😂

  11. Awesome! SG club looks great. I like The Bellwood and Ishinohana in Shibuya. I bartend in Hawaii and get inspired by these cocktail makers. I’ve put dashi in one cocktail, shiso in another, Kabosu in a different and Yuzu in a different one too. Maybe in the future Japan by food should do a tutorial on all the different types of alcohol drinks and food pairings. Nihonshuu with seafood, shochu with yakitori, lemon sour with gyutan, beer with tebasaki etc. Thanks for the great videos Aloha
