Sekizan Zenin Temple features two monkey statues, one on the roof and another on the grounds, believed to ward off evil spirits. The temple is situated in the northeastern part of Kyoto City, a direction traditionally known as “Kimon” (Demon’s Gate) in Japanese folklore.
