The latest ekiben I tried on my way from Kyoto back to Tokyo on the Shinkansen. These ekiben originate from the Hyogo prefecture, which has a long history of eating octopus. The containers are based on the traditional ceramic pots used to trap octopus in Japan. There are many pot designs available, with this one being a collab with the JSDF.
NHK World actually did a feature on the history of takomeshi and these ekiben in Akashi, available to watch on their website.

We have one of the container at home. My wife always uses it to hold ladles when we have nabe.
