Karuizawa was originally a post town on the Nakasendo before being developed as a summer retreat by Westerners in the 1880s. Tourists flock here from spring to autumn, but fewer people visit from mid-November to March as the average temperature drops below 10℃ (50℉).
Shiraito Falls has a unique shape, with water flowing horizontally from the middle of the rock. You should definitely visit the falls, as they are very easy to access.
Old Karuizawa Ginza Street, once a post town lined with small inns, is now a popular shopping street. It’s so much fun to browse through the fashionable shops and find your favorite one. My recommendation is a mocha soft serve ice cream sold by Mikado Coffee.
