⁴ᴷ Kyoto: Uji Station (京都府: 宇治駅) – Japan Walking Tour (October, 2024)
I’m on a journey to the Chūgoku region, aiming for both the San’in and Sanyō areas, and I’ve now reached Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. Uji is well known for its tea and Byōdō-in Temple, which is also featured on the 10-yen coin. Byōdō-in was founded by Fujiwara no Yorimichi, the eldest son of Fujiwara no Michinaga. I also noticed that the city has many references to the NHK Taiga drama “Hikaru Kimi,” with posters and displays scattered throughout the town.
At night, though, Uji feels rather quiet, with very few tourists in sight, giving it a somewhat lonely atmosphere.
