Summer is (almost?) over, and it's time to say goodbye to shaved ice / kakigoori, which is usually only on sale until end of September! My favourite kind is Uji Kintoki / 宇治金時, made with Uji tea and topped with anko (read bean paste), shiratama (rice flour dumpling), and sometimes matcha jelly and ice cream. From cafe to hundred yen sushi shop, you can find it everywhere in Japan.

What's your favourite flavor and topping? Have you ever eaten expensive kakigoori at fancy kakigoori cafe?

  1. Had a kakigori just like the one in your 2nd pic on a hot Sept day in Kyoto and it was heavenly
