Singapore to Sapporo WITHOUT Flying: Day 92

Singapore to Sapporo WITHOUT Flying: Day 92

This must be how Noah felt in the floods.

Another rain-affected day for Tash and I on day three of the Thakhek Loop. Today was action-packed at least and it stayed dry (mostly!

Let’s get it out of the way first, the views on the Thakhek loop are gorgeous and this includes the first section of our drive today – the flooded forest. This area was purposely flooded for a hydropower project and today, the dead trees remain an echo of the past.

Eager to see something else, we made our way to Dragon Cave. Guess what happened? It was closed due to too much rainfall in the previous days. We were left wondering whether we should have done the Thakhek in dry season instead…

This though rang further true when we made our way to the Chill Pool only to find the road was flooded. If we can’t even do water-based activities, then what hope is there 😂

Before we embarked on the Thakhek loop, we were warned of a section of road that was dangerous and had seen a lot of people falling due to it being under construction. Today we made it to this part. The rumours were true and honestly this is one of the most horrendous terrains I’ve ever driven through. We gunned it through the thick mud and with a bit of slipping and sliding, we somehow remained upright. Phew.

The day ended though with the sun coming out as we took a beautiful road through the rice fields towards Konglor cave. We needed that. See you tomorrow for the final day of the Thakhek loop!
