  1. I'm going to Japan at the end of November, and I always study the rules so I don't become a bad tourist. I get really angry when I see other tourists disrespecting the rules.

  2. Definitely agree to a large extent on most of the points that is more grey than black & white.

One point that is worth adding is social media and influencers pushes too much on the spots in the golden triangle with not enough focusing outside which leads to the #fomo of most tourists.

However i really do think most tourists who know the crowd problem but yet continue to go to those spots are also part of issue. There are plenty bamboo forest around and it isn't just at Arashiyama, however few want to do the research and just end up follow the crowd.

  3. I feel like it's a combination of all but I lean more toward the reasoning of tourists who didn't even bother researching how things are done in Japan.

you're visiting a country and they're accommodating your bum already so the least you could do is know some of the do's and donts

  4. I don't think the problem is overtourism and more about how the country handles it. Whatever method they were dealing before that worked to have tourism controlled before the pandemic, perhaps it may be time to consider making some changes. For example, we saw recently a couple months back Kyoto announced a new bus line specifically for tourists, in a way so that it wouldn't interfere with the locals causing more crowd congestion. Not all tourists are the way how the media portrays them; it really focuses on the ones who don't respect cultural norms and causes a bad image. And also with the golden triangle of Kyoto, Tokyo, and Osaka, I do agree tourists should explore other prefectures like Hiroshima to learn more about the country, and also go to places locals are around. This would definitely give them an experience how real life Japan is and see the daily life locals deal with all the time.

Did went to some local places aside of the tourist spots first time and really got a feel of what locals go through and their routines.

  5. Choose more locations outside of Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka during your trips. There are so many cool places and by visiting elsewhere we can support Japan so much doing so

  6. Great topic! Imo, it's a combination of Japan not adapting,Tourists visiting and tourists staying in the top three! Just a perfect storm tbh. Hopefully Japan will put the billions and.billions of Yen to good use.But we all know round gaijins will stand out to the japanese,so we will be the problem… Plus the they are a lot of the time. Shibuya has its final night of selling alcohol and drinking on the streets today (28 sept), and I know from personal experience,it's not all tourists causing problems there

  7. All I hear is that you want Japan to accommodate more and change for tourists, put more bins for tourists, more turnstiles for tourists, learn more English for tourists and changing business operating hours. So you are blaming Japan for overtourism.

  8. Thanks for the video Nathan. My son and I are visiting Japan for the first time in just over two weeks time. We have tried to learn some Japanese and will be carrying our own bags for trash in addition to being polite and respectful to the Japanese people and adhere to their rules.
We have learned a lot from you and other great you tubers to prepare ourselves for Japan. Than you. 👍

  9. Ah yes, clickbait titles and stupid YouTube face thumbnail and pointing fingers at your viewers who are very likely some of the most respectful tourists. Keep it classy.

  10. The Japanese economy is struggling, despite all these tourists. They should charge 200 bucks per tourist, as an entry fee. 200 bucks on a multi-thousand dollar trip, is nothing, and the money can go to help the Japanese people/infrastructure, etc. Buy some damn garbage cans, and benches. lol

  11. We will be going for the first time in Mid-November. We have made it a bit of a whirlwind trip. 2 nights Tokyo Station. 3 nights Kariya (visiting friends in Hekinan-City, Aichi) 2 nights Kanazawa, 2 nights Asakusa. Crazy probably, but in case we don’t make it back. 😂
Question will an e-sim work all over Japan? Will pocket WiFi work all over Japan? One more reliable?

  12. I'm really glad, that my first Japan trip will start in Tottori, the prefecture which is the least populated one. But ofc we will then hit Kyoto & Osaka but going from there to Kobe, Himeji, Hiroshima and in the end to Kawaguchiko & Tokyo. I guess as a first timer you can't really miss Kyoto, Osaka & Tokyo but I plan to come to Japan next April again for the EXPO in Osaka. Then I also wanna visit Sapporo and hopefully also Sendai.

  13. I was there in June through Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto etc and didn’t find it overbearing at all. Europe can be way worse. A lot of this is media/youtuber hype. The only bad area was Asakusa, which I would not recommend. Tokyo is so big though I didn’t find it bad.

  14. Opening hours might be Extended so the Tourist will not fall into rush hour traffic by going back from visiting spots to the Hotel ❤
