The sweetest fruit you’ll ever taste #japantravel #melon #musttry

What’s a road trip without some melon? 🍈 Part 1️⃣3️⃣ of our travel sabbatical adventures in Japan! 🇯🇵

👉 If you love travel or want to see the realities of traveling through our eyes, then come follow us @minjunandkevin on our travel sabbatical around the world! 🌎

Japan is really well known for its melons, and one of the most popular types is from Furano. Farmers put a lot of care into making sure the melons are at their ripest and sweetest for the harvest so we were excited to try as many as we could!

It was not as easy as we thought to find good melons. Not all melon farms or stands are on Google Maps and not all melons are equally sweet. We tried five places and here are the two we would recommend:
📍Farm Yoshida, Higashi 13 Sen-12 Yamabe, Furano, Hokkaido 079-1581, Japan
📍レストラン ぜるぶの丘, Meiji, Biei, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido 071-0231, Japan

Tips:
1️⃣Melon season: May – October, but may vary by farm
2️⃣Each farm has different varieties, like green or orange melons
3️⃣Some farms offer free tastings
4️⃣You can buy slices or whole melons
5️⃣Rent a car to drive from farm to farm
6️⃣Go early – melons available to eat that day may sell out
7️⃣Some farms have stickers indicating the date to eat each melon for peak sweetness
8️⃣Some farms will cut up your melons and box them to go
9️⃣Check to see if you can bring whole melons on the plane (some countries allow this like Singapore)

📢 Stay tuned as we check out an active volcano next.
