Riding the Japan’s Shinkansen “KAMOME” & “Relay Kamome” | Nagasaki to Fukuoka
I took the newest Shinkansen “KAMOME” from Nagasaki Station to Hakata Station.
The Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen “KAOME” started service in September 2022 between Takeo-Onsen Station and Nagasaki Station.
The Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen is fast and convenient, but you need to change to the “Relay Kamome” at Takeo-Onsen Station.
Is it worth to taking the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen and Relay Kamome? Let’s find out!

The non-reserved seats on the N700S are better than any train seat I’ve ever had in Europe, especially the UK. It’s very optimistic of the KAMOME to display “Hakata” as its destination—I encountered something similar going from Austria to Switzerland, and it’s confusing to those not familiar with the network to see a train advertised to somewhere it’s not going. I’ve said before, but I really hope that JR, the Japanese government, and the Saga prefectural government can come to an agreement about completing the route through Saga, because it’s a waste to have such a short Shinkansen line and to have to change trains, especially if you’re travelling from Honshu.
