23:57 Closing Thoughts..
we just finished a month-long stay in one of the most incredible cities in the entire world which is Tokyo Japan and that means that over the past 2 years we have now spent over 3 months living there so it goes without saying that we absolutely love the city I mean we had one of the best memories of our life there we got engaged composed to her there that’s how much the city means to us exactly so we wanted to honor this city by dedicating an entire video just to our experiences with it and gather all of our knowledge of it and tips and tricks and everything for those of you who may be planning your own trip to Tokio soon so that we can hopefully guide you to have the best possible experience and fall in love with the city just like we have in this video we are going to be going over where to stay in Tokyo some tips to keep in mind as you prep for your Tokyo trip the best things to do in Tokyo our favorite things to see the best parks in the city our favorite cafes and our top recommendations on to eat in Tokyo two things before we get started first of all we just want to say a massive massive thank you to you because since the last time we filmed we have hit 100,000 subscribers on this channel we filmed our reaction to when we first hit it we have all of that ready we’re planning a very special video to celebrate but we just needed to say it now get it off our chest ex so thankful secondly we have a little disclaimer with any guide we always always like to just remind people this is subjective and it’s all down to our opinion obviously what we’re going to suggest and recommend even if we’ve spent 3 months in Tokyo that does not even scratch the surface so for any of you watching who are locals or anything like that we definitely want to encourage you comment things down below for the people watching so that if we miss anything they can have some more useful suggestions from you guys as well but with that being said let’s get into it starting with where to stay in Tokyo we’ve stayed in probably 10 different airbnbs all around the city so we’re just going to pick our three top three favorites yeah we went through and narrowed it down to three for different reasons why there are favorites starting with Ginza yes ginsa is perfect for somebody who is coming to Tokyo for the first time because it’s so centrally located it’s also just really nice it’s a really nice feeling being there it’s a lovely lovely area it’s very like refined and classy you’ve got shopping like all the international stores tons of great restaurants one word of warning I will say about this place is it’s more expensive so that does come along with that the next place we want to recommend is shabuya which everyone’s heard of shabuya this is going to be where you stay to see like all the iconic stuff and it’s just super easy to get to Shinjuku haruku all we did say Ginza for first timers but this one I’d say if you’re doing like a short stay probably just go to shabuya cuz all the major touristy things are right within reach you have shabuya station right there you can reach anywhere in the city there like all the lines of the trains meet in shabuya exactly and that leads us to our personal favorite which is asakusa sorry if I mispronounced that but asakusa is like where we would say if you’re doing a long stay in Tokyo you should stay here yes for sure it feels more local it’s also more affordable yes super which is awesome if you’re staying for a long term like we were yeah it feels more like laidback and a more authentic Tokyo stay I would say and while we’re on this topic we want to specifically recommend section L properties on Airbnb we will link like a few of their properties down below it’s the best you can find on Airbnb for the best price so we just wanted to specifically name them that leads us into our tips section of this video which we have so many tips oh yeah this is going to be a long section this is going to be a long section starting with the biggest thing that I think you guys should do is download City mapper yes it’s so important it helped us so much throughout the city and figuring out the Metro system is so much easier on there yeah Tokyo is known to have the most efficient public transport in the world so it’s going to be your best friend especially if you know how to use it speaking of public transport if you are planning to take any sort of day trip out of Tokyo which we heavily recommend you should see much more than just Tokyo when you’re in Japan we really want to direct your attention to the JR Rail Pass this applies to tourists specifically if you get a visitor’s visa permit in your passport you qualify to get the JR Rail Pass which is basically depending on which one you buy you can get a week two weeks or I believe four weeks unlimited rides on all Jr trains so that applies to the trains that go within Tokyo but also the shinkansen or bullet trains that go to Osaka Koto all over the north everywhere and they do this specifically for tourists to promote more tourism all around Japan so it’s literally made for you to save money yes so the next tip that we have is to download the Google Translate app on your phone because the Google Translate app allows you to download languages to have when you’re offline MH so you won’t even need data and this so helpful this saved our lives a couple times in Japan the next thing we want to say is never intentionally film or take photos of anybody while in Japan it is actually illegal yeah we’ve heard of in extreme cases people being deported for this from the country so it’s not like obviously when you take photos or videos people will unintentionally be caught in the background or they’ll walk in your shot that’s fine what we’re talking about is like sometimes people just for some reason think it’s okay to focus on someone or speak about someone on camera and be like oh look how cute or whatever and film someone not only is it illegal in Japan but it is a violation of their privacy and it’s rude yes so just we want to specifically say in Japan of all places don’t do this yes that actually leads me to the next one which is that accepting phone calls or listening to music or doing anything that’s like disruptive or loud in public space or on the Metros is considered very rude so just be aware of that even just talking too loud to like if you’re with your friends or something on the Metro just respect that they’re more quiet on there they want things to be calm they’re going to work and stuff exactly another one is always carry some cash on you we ran into several issues our first trip because we’re so used to paying by card for everything and while card is becoming more widely accepted there’s still some restaurants public Transportation markets things like that where it’s like strictly only cash so just always try to have some on you okay this next one is big for me so I just I need to get it off my chest in Japan people tend to carry their trash with them bring it home and throw it away there so you’re going to have a very hard time finding trash cans out in public there’s never any trash cans anywhere yeah so I don’t know what you want to do with this information but just prepare yourself I feel like it’s useful yeah just be prepared the next tip is to be prepared to wait in line for things there are going to be lots of cafes and lots of things that just have lines because they’re popular or especially the touristy places and while on that topic we want to end this section off by saying please make sure to book any major activities that you have planned in advance yes we use gety guide all the time this is not even sponsored so don’t click off what I’m saying is literally get your guid saved us while we were in Japan all over we booked tickets to go to things that you can’t even book if you’re not Japanese yeah like Disneyland was almost it was impossible our first time that we came to Tokyo because we couldn’t book it with an American credit card and it was just so hard to get a ticket to Disneyland you can tell it really bothered yeah it really bothered me because I wanted to go so bad but this time we actually got to go using get your guide which was so useful yes if you just think you can show up and do things that’s not the case plan in advance use get your guide any of the activities that we mentioned that you can book in advance we’re going to link Down Below on get your guide for you to book in advance we highly recommend this with that being said let’s get into the top things to do in Tokyo starting with shabuya Sky which was so beautiful yeah in terms of going to places in Tokyo to get a view of the city shuya sky is our personal favorite and if you go at Sunset it is just un real the most beautiful sunset in Tokyo yes next one that we recommend to do is go to Harajuku and shop and try out the fun food and just kind of people watch too because that’s like the very hip cool part of the city and people dress very uniquely for sure and there’s just so many fun things to see and do out there so it’s like an activity just go to haruku and enjoy it the next one we want to talk about is playing the claw machines they’re literally every everywhere in Tokyo there’s all these little like rooms or shops that have the claw machines in them and it’s so much fun we spent hours in there we became gamblers there’s so many of these little arcade rooms all over the city they’re so fun for no reason yeah you never win but they’re really fun absolutely but they’re so fun the next one we want to recommend is team lab planets this was the coolest thing we did in Tokyo it was so so beautiful and there was one room with like a mirror on the floor and these lights that hang down glowing ball lights it was so beautiful there’s a room where you like are in water and there’s fish swimming and you can like interact with them I could talk about it all day it’s it was incredible it’s incredible you have to go the next thing we want to recommend is Seno Market which was a really cool Market in the asakusa area you can buy different types of food and there’s a lot of shopping so if you want to get any souvenirs this is like the perfect place to do it yeah and it’s also Al super traditional feeling because it leads down to this incredible Temple it’s the Seno G Temple and I mean it was just a really magical traditional feeling experience it was beautiful and this leads me to my personal favorite on this section which is thrifting in shimokita zawa this is so near and dear to my heart and mine yes it’s our favorite thrifting in the entire world if you are interested at all in thrifting while in Tokyo just go you have to go check it out it’s it’s incredible it feels like it goes on for forever but it’s like a square mile of like back to back to back to back incredible thrift shops yeah the next thing is my favorite which is Tokyo Disney sea it was so incredible and probably one of my favorite Disney theme parks it was so different than anywhere any other Disney the food is the best part yeah the food is incredible it’s so inexpensive also yes I was going to say so inexpensive and you have to check it out purely because it is the only Disney C in the world so this is one of one it’s very special that leads me to the next section of this guide which is things to see and the difference between things to do and things to see for us is that the things to do are all things you have to pay to do things to see are like things that you should go see they’re free to do but you have to go see them while you’re in Tokyo starting with the iconic shabuya Crossing or shya scramble as they say it’s the most busy crosswalk in the world you’ve heard of it for sure it’s obvious but you need to do it everyone needs to experience this at some point in their lives so cool the next thing you should see is Ginza on a Sunday they actually Clos down some of the streets in Ginza it’s just interesting cuz it’s like this whole Main Street of the shopping area of Ginza and everybody’s just walking on the street and it’s like a beautiful area everybody’s out with their families and if you’re there on a Sunday in Tokyo you should definitely go check this out the next thing is Tokyo Sky Tree we feel like this is something you can just see and it’s amazing you have to see the Tokyo Sky Tree but we don’t feel like you have to go all the way up because should we a sky is just a little bit better in our opinion for a view of the city because the Sky Tree you’re in like a windowed area and it’s very crowded in there it’s too crowded shuya Sky felt more open and like you know you can actually walk around and exctly nonetheless you should see the Tokyo Sky Tree and taking pictures of it it’s just so cool it’s really a cool it’s a beautiful building next up is Mei Shrine this is one of the most tranquil areas of the city I can’t believe it’s within the most populated city in the world because it literally felt like a private just Escape into another time period yeah it was so calm and so beautiful and you feel like you’re just in the middle of a forest in there the next thing you should see is akiabara which is like the anime area of Tokyo it’s really cool to walk around and there’s a lot of like different shops and stuff you can walk into any of the shops in there and see like anime themed figurines and people are like dressed up as anime characters there’s arcades that are super fun it’s a cool part it’s a very cool area yeah of town to go check out and that leads me to the last thing on on this section which is Shinjuku at night specifically when you think about like the flashing lights and the neon signs and everything that you think of In Tokyo you’re thinking of Shinjuku yes this is just the coolest most just Dynamic and one of one parts of Tokyo yeah it feels like you’re in the future when you’re walking around there it’s just it’s so bright and insane over it’s overwhelming but it’s just so cool I mean we love going over there next up we have to talk about the parks in Tokyo because there are so many beautiful parks in this city but we want to talk about our top three favorite must sea within Tokyo starting with ueo Park this is arguably the most popular Park in the city I would say it feels absolutely massive yes you can easily spend a full day just walking around this park it’s stunning it has like a temple in it it has always has some sort of activities [Music] it’s always filled with people and just so many beautiful trees it was beautiful the next Park that we want to recommend is yoyogi Park this one was I mean it wasn’t my favorite because the next one is my favorite but it was so beautiful we went there during the beginning of cherry blossom season and it was just stunning it was huge it was also right next to mie Shrine which if you’re going to do Mei Shrine you should do yogi park in the same day it’s just the perfect day is right there we would say this was our favorite Park if not for the next one which is Shinjuku and this is actually the park where I proposed to Ryland so that should tell you a little bit about how much we love this part yes we are always this is always going to be our favorite because of this we’re a little biased this one is a little bit more seasonal I would say because the highlight of it in my opinion was the sheer amount of cherry blossom trees that are there so spring I don’t think there’s a park that beats it I haven’t seen it in fall but I’ve heard it’s also beautiful for the same reasons this one you have to pay to get into but it’s 500 yen so it’s really not bad and you can use your sua card or like the card that you use for your Metro Transportation M you can use that to get into the park which is really convenient next up let’s talk about our favorite thing to explore in any city which is the cafes Tokyo has incredible Cafe culture they do some of the best coffee in the world so there’s tons to choose from but we want to talk about four starting with kayaba coffee this one we enjoyed a lot mostly because it was very like traditional MH and intimate feeling the coffee was so delicious and very like straightforward you’re not going to be able to get like a macchiato or something and the little treats that we got were so good plus just the vibe and the the Ambiance of it is really cool the next one we want recommend is unlimited coffee it’s actually right next to Tokyo Sky Tree which is around the area we were staying this past time this place was just so cool they took coffee very seriously so seriously yeah they really did and their coffee was amazing next one we want to talk about is wreck coffee this is like Diner Vibes yes this one’s so good such a cool spot loved it so much the people were so friendly and cool it was very like Tokyo yes they had buttered toast with honey Ryland got a ginger ESO L honey latte it was so good one of the best coffee drinks I’ve ever had now we’re going to get into my probably my favorite coffee shop in the world yeah mine too it’s so good it’s called bongan coffee yes oh it was we went there like 20 times it’s actually in ginsa you have to wait in a little bit of a line only because it’s so small it’s like this little hole in the wall and there’s only like two people working all the time line or not it is the best coffee you’ll have in Tokyo I I think yeah it was so good I got the honey latte you should definitely check that out but the thing they’re known for is the matcha espresso latte I got that every time and it was perfect now let’s talk about our favorite thing in the world which is food top places to eat in Tokyo starting with something you’re going to think is kind of funny but it’s 7 11 baby yeah I mean we we shouldn’t say top place to eat but like just a great place to go and get I when you’re talking Tokyo you have to go into the convis you have to check out the convenience store so yeah not just 7-Eleven Family Mart awon you’ve probably heard they have legendary convenience stores in Japan and it’s true you save money it’s quick it’s easy and it’s just so unique the next three that we want to talk about are breakfast places because breakfast is particularly hard to find in Tokyo we have found definitely so these will be very useful to you starting with bills bills is one of our favorites yeah everything is so good we went there all the time and you can actually go there for more than breakfast it’s open late we’ve had lunch and dinner there before always good always consistent and it’s a cool little spot it looks so cool inside it’s classy it’s right in the heart of Ginza we love it so you should check it out the next breakfast spot we’re going to recommend is Jade five which was amazing particularly for an American style breakfast yes so good if you want to get a nice stack of pancakes eggs and bacon American style it was I mean you can’t beat it it was so good amazing it’s cash only that’s another thing I want to point out so bring cash and yeah we can’t recommend it enough next up our favorite breakfast spot it’s called CB it’s just incredible oh it’s so good I had the best avocado toast of my life which that sounds so so like yeah basic but true it was amazing and the coffee is so good too they do these like lunch sets or breakfast sets and it comes with salad and like it’s just a very healthy meal perect it’s perfect for like a healthy breakfast or healthy lunch so we highly recommend it next one is a very popular some might argue overrated spot but I love it so much and I need to suggest it it’s ichiran Ramen sorry you guys you’ve heard of it for sure yeah so sui you’ve heard of it before and that’s because it deserves to be heard of you guys it’s so good it’s a consistently incredible bowl of ramen it’s a unique experience you get these like individual Cubbies to eat at people like lift up the curtain slide in this perfect bowl of ramen yes you have to try it at least once definitely the next one we want to talk about is hiroi in shimokitazawa this is the spot to go to for okonomiyaki in Tokyo it was so good I dream about it I mean we we can’t speak for it being the best okonomiyaki in Tokyo let me walk that back little but what I will say is if you’re going to shimokita zawa and you’re looking for a good meal this spot this is it’s amazing you have to go oh gosh you guys it’s so good the next one we want to recommend is Udon Shin which is the best ever the best udon we’ve ever had it was so good probably one of our favorite meals of all time in Tokyo they make the noodles fresh right there you can watch them do it it’s the most perfect texture of noodle you’ll ever experience the flavors the vibe it’s incredible even the way like the system they have in place for you to be able to eat there is very efficient because like we said the Japanese don’t mind waiting but they have figured out a way for you to not have to just stand there and wait for 2 hours for a good bowl of udon the way it works is you pull a ticket you get a QR code that you can scan on your phone and keep track of your place in line and you can go explore it’s right in Shinjuku so you can just walk around Shinjuku and then come back when it’s your turn and have the best bowl of udon ever it’s so good the next one we want to talk about is a very special place for us it’s a sushi spot called sukij Tama Sushi yes now the thing that makes this place special for us is is that in Japan it is so hard to be able to get reservations or just pop into a sushi spot you really have to plan far in advance sometimes they don’t even accept foreigners they have like locals only or they have their clientele and they don’t really even accept you this spot we never had any issues you can walk right in and that does not speak to it not being good enough because yeah oh so good incredible Sushi best sushi that we have ever had in our lives honestly we ate there count times we love this spot we want to bring attention to it you have to go now this is probably one of our favorite things to do in Tokyo which is to go and just eat our hearts out at suuki Fish Market so amazing go there and have the tamagoyaki which is like a sweet egg go have the fresh seafood it’s caught fresh every day go have the D fuku which is incredible there oh my gosh we had the best fuku of our lives there so good the custard fuku is so good yes but above all else do not leave this Market without having the A5 wagu beef skewers it’s to this day the best piece of meat I’ve ever had most expensive piece of meat but also the best and it was just I mean I dream about it it’s an experience you guys it’s an experience you can’t leave Tokyo without trying this piece of meat yeah it’s incredible so that is going to do it for our Tokyo guide you guys we really hope that you got immense value out of this we worked very hard to put this list together if you enjoyed this video or found any value in it we would really appreciate if you left us a like and if you haven’t already subscribed to the channel we would very much appreciate that and once again we’re going to link any bookable activities
