Hi! We’re in Minato Ward, Tokyo. Today, we’re staying at a hotel surrounded by books. The hotel is about an 8-minute walk from Hamamatsucho Station and a 2-minute walk from Daimon Subway Station. It’s conveniently located for access from Haneda and Narita Airports.

Near the hotel are attractions like Tokyo Tower and Zojoji Temple, perfect for sightseeing. But since it’s not in a bustling area, you can enjoy a peaceful stay. Here. Founded in 1948, it initially operated as a hotel for foreign trade delegations.

In 2020, it was renovated into a library hotel directed by a famous Japanese bookstore. Behold the stairway, a cascade of books. There are Japanese New Year decorations, so photogenic and lovely. We’ve booked an afternoon tea before check-in today. An original sake cocktail served in a traditional Wajima-nuri cup.

There is a box that looks like a book on the table. There’s also a real book. The first layer of the book-like box contains sugar and an hourglass. It’s like a jewel box, too cute! The box’s lower section contains tea leaves. Choose from 12 scents. I’ve chosen Orange Chocolate Japanese tea.

During afternoon tea, you can enjoy unlimited refills of tea. We measure the steeping time for the tea leaves with an hourglass. Good. The teacups are also very cute. These adorable sugars are okay to take home if left over. The scones have arrived. They smell great.

Seeing the scones reminds me of Iori from the butler cafe. Must break them carefully… There are two each of plain and chocolate chip. They were good! Then the main arrives. Bigger than I thought. The round stand is lovely. The restaurant’s diverse sweets come from its Japanese, Western, and Chinese chefs.

Japanese sweets include yokan, Western sweets like gateau chocolate, Chinese sweets like almond tofu, etc🍭. There are also savory items like mini burgers, offering a variety of flavors. Here’s a fish croquette. Let’s try it. GOOD. This is my first time trying Orange Chocolate tea, and it’s so good.

It’s more refreshing than I thought and pairs well with the sweets. For the second cup and beyond, you can choose your teacup. They’re all cute but… I poured pink hibiscus tea into a yellow cup. It’s unique to a library hotel that you can enjoy meals while reading books.

You can bring any book from the lounge’s bookshelf. The taste and quantity were satisfying, and we finished it all with ease. Thank you for the meal. The lounge is right in front of the first-floor restaurant. It’s available 24 hours. Wall-to-wall bookshelves. Beautifully displayed.

There are unusual books like large photo collections, which is interesting. Here’s the reception. Let’s check in. This hotel is popular with international guests and offers multilingual support. There’s also a currency exchange machine. Souvenirs like chopsticks and Japanese ceremonial gift envelopes are available for sale. The beckoning cat figurines are cute.

The cat in the middle has captured all the attention. >> Staff: Thank you for staying with us. >> Staff: Your room is on the 11th floor of this building, room 1109. >> Staff: Coffee and tea are complimentary until 11pm.

>> Staff: Alcoholic drinks are 1000 yen each. Please let us know if you need anything. >> Staff: We do have a lot of books in the hotel, 1500 books. >> Staff: Over 60% of them are written in a foreign language in English.

>> Staff: If you find a book you like, feel free to take it to your room. >> Staff: Please enjoy your stay. Thank you very much! >> Staff: I’ll show you to the elevator. >> Staff: The breakfast venue is here. >> Staff: Breakfast is available from 7:00 to 9:30 am.

All the staff members are very polite and wonderful. >> Staff: Thank you for waiting. Please enjoy your stay. Thank you so much. Our room today is on the 11th floor. The guest room floor is very quiet and serene. The doors are auto-lock.

Inside a case that can also be used as a bookmark, there are two room keys. Standard King with breakfast for two: From 34,954 yen (235.88 USD / € 217.29). Looks great! A closet near the entrance. Disinfected slippers, hangers, and deodorizing spray. A shoehorn and shoe brush. This is a steam iron. That’s convenient.

The room size is 21-22 square meters. You might need to open large suitcases on the bed, but it doesn’t feel cramped. Nice to have a table and sofa in the corner. Comfortable. TV is positioned for easy viewing from both the sofa and bed. There’s a User guide, among others. English option available.

You can watch TV programs including foreign language broadcasts. Shelf next to the TV. Complimentary coffee, green tea and black tea. Teas from ‘Art of Tea,’ an organic tea brand. A handy wine opener is provided for your own drinks. Glasses and cups. A refrigerator.

Laundry service set. There’s also a coin laundry on another floor. Nightwear and a safety box. You can secure important items with a 4-digit code. An electric kettle. A book-shaped box. It’s a letter set with envelopes and paper. Postcards of the hotel from the past and present. Quite a change in atmosphere.

A foldable mirror. A jug for the water dispenser, and an outlet. What’s the view like outside? Lots of buildings. You can see a few people walking. It’s tranquil. An air conditioner near the sofa. A conversion plug. The bathroom is this way. The bath and toilet are combined. Toothbrushes. Cotton pads and swabs. Headband.

Lavender bath salts. Body wash towel. Hairbrush. Razor. Body lotion. Cute. Skincare set. Cleansing gel, face wash, toner, and emulsion. Mini towel. Wow, a Sharp Plasmacluster hairdryer. Good for the hair. Mirror with lights. It reacts without touch. The shower and bathtub are spacious enough for one adult. Organic shampoo and other products.

To reduce plastic, there’s a water dispenser on each guest room floor. Available 24 hours for free. It’s great to have access to cold and good water. Nearby is a small room called ‘Inglenook.’ Each floor has a theme, and this floor’s theme is ‘Art.’

There are two elevators. They’re not too crowded except around check-out times. I’d like to go up the staircase. The bookshelves are about 7 meters high, which is impressive. Books here are also available for reading. On the second floor, the music changes as it plays from the speakers.

This area is available from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. There are chairs everywhere, so if you find a book of interest, you can sit down and read. Each of the three bookshelves has a theme of ‘Past,’ ‘Present,’ and ‘Future. ‘Past’ holds history, ‘Present’ offers modern works, ‘Future’ explores advances like SDGs, AI.

There are over 1,500 books in total, many of which are somewhat rare. You can also purchase any book you like by scanning its QR code with your smartphone. Too many books? Try the concierge’s select shelf. “The Giving Tree (Rise and Shine)”. I was intrigued because Haruki Murakami has translated it into Japanese.

The lounge on the first floor has a fireplace, and here you can find books of all genres. I usually stick to novels, but I thought I’d try a genre I don’t typically read. Guests can enjoy complimentary coffee and tea, unlimited. I chose an espresso.

Eco-friendly Butterfly Cup, which doesn’t require a lid or straw. It’s not often you get to chill with a big hardcover book, right? It doubles as a digital detox for ultimate calm. This hotel has a great variety of books on Japan in English, convenient for our international guests.

Well, we could have dinner at the hotel restaurant, but we are going to dine out tonight. Ah, Tokyo Tower! You can see it just a short walk away. Tokyo Tower is 333 meters tall. Easy to remember. Wow, beautiful. I thought it was bright red, but it’s surprisingly orange.

A temple, Tokyo Tower, and buildings. Good. A collaboration with the moon. Glad it’s clear. Right in front of us is the recently built Azabudai Hills. There’s an observation deck, so let’s go there. But first, let’s grab a bite. There are many upscale restaurants, but there’s also a cozy ramen shop.

Ramen: 700 yen (4.73 USD / € 4.36). Good springy noodles. Gyoza: 400 yen (2.70 USD / € 2.49). Burnt, but charmingly tasty. Thank you for the meal. So, we came to Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower. It’s 330 meters tall, surpassing Abeno Harukas (300m) as the tallest building in Japan.

Free observation deck on the 33rd floor. It’s rumored that Tokyo’s nightscape is built on overtime work. What’s that swirling thing? On the left is the main tower we just climbed, and on the right is the residence. Wonder what kind of celebrities live there. A giant leopard appeared, so it’s time to head back.

There’s a convenience store just a minute’s walk from the hotel, very handy. Just going to do a little shopping before returning to the hotel. Back home. You can enjoy a drink at the lounge for 1,000 yen (6.76 USD / € 6.22) each. Japanese white wine. This appears to be a Tornado Beer.

Wow. Tornado! Apparently, you can add foam with this button. Back in the room for a toast. A night party. Chose cheese snacks and wasabi snacks, perfect for nibbling. It’s nice to bring alcohol from the convenience store, but… the drinks from the server are really good.

You can bring books from the hotel to your room. “Goodbye, Hello World” is a fascinating sci-fi manga! Still eating. Pudding parfait. Chewy and delicious. My husband’s choice is a cream taiyaki with chocolate. Chewy dough filled with chocolate cream. Let’s take a shower. Towels are of course provided.

I really liked this organic shampoo because of its pleasant scent. The hairdryer was incredibly fast at drying. An eco-friendly toothbrush made from straw. It feels just as good as a regular toothbrush. The bed is Japanese king-sized. Continuing to read our favorite books. Good night. Good morning.

This morning’s breakfast is a buffet at the restaurant. This might be my first time at such a cool hotel buffet. Lots of fruits too. The menu has a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, anyone can dine at the restaurant, btw.

I’m happy to see prosciutto and salmon. There are also cheeses you can cut yourself. Impressive. Ah, I got a great idea with this French bread. I’ll take some salad and mackerel… And make a sandwich! There are various drinks like coffee and tea, but… This super cold apple juice from Aomori was incredibly good.

There are waffles and yogurt too. A rich breakfast experience. Very satisfying. Thank you for the meal. Thank you very much. The fountain below makes taking a book from this shelf a bit nerve-wracking, fearing a drop. Time for tea in the room. There’s complimentary tea and coffee. This electric kettle has a cute design.

We chose green tea and black tea. Checkout is until 11 am, so you can relax after breakfast. Relaxing and reading until the last minute. Fully enjoyed the library hotel. We’ll return the books before checking out. It was a wonderfully soothing hotel stay. Thank you for watching.

  1. Interesting!, thank you
Shiba Park Hotel is a small hotel that is not well known even among Tokyoites, but it has an interesting history.
In 1945, after the end of the Pacific War, the Allied Forces General Headquarters was established in Tokyo, and the dormitory of Kyoritsu Women's Pharmaceutical University in Shiba Park became a dormitory for female American soldiers. This was the predecessor of Shiba Park Hotel.
The manager of the hotel was a director of the Japan Rugby Union, so rugby teams who came to Japan, such as New Zealand’ s All Blacks, stayed at this hotel.

  2. Omg I can't help but laugh when you mentioned Iori frkm the butler cafe when breaking the scone 😂 That was one of the very first videos I watched from your channel haha.

  3. The hotel design, the library, the room, the amenities look so spacious, comfortable, and modern. The breakfast buffet looked scrumptious.

  4. I quite like the idea of merging a hotel with a public library, not so much the execution. To me, the library lounge seemed quite noisy due to the sounds of water plus loud music, which isn't really conducive to concentration required for reading. EDIT: however, complimentary drinks are a big plus, seeing as public libraries usually forbid eating and drinking in an effort to protect their books.

  5. Как понравилось. Люблю книги. И сочетание европейских и японских традиций на высшем уровне.

  6. Well, I seem to have discovered exactly what hotel I will be staying in when I visit Japan in the future! Thank you for the lovely video!

  7. That afternoon tea reminded me of the full tea I enjoyed at Mad Hatter's in Anoka, MN. They offer a full tea service as well, although you have to make a reservation 24 hours in advance.

Also…a library hotel, eh? Definitely gives new meaning to booking a stay! (gets looks) I'll get me coat…

  8. This hotel is a true book paradise for anyone who likes to read!) Also, mention of the scones and Butlers Cafe made me smile because I remembered your video about it which was a bit funny in a good way.))

  9. Your most charming video yet ❤ I'd love to visit this library hotel someday, it's everything I could ask for. Thank you for bringing us along for the stay 😊

  10. Thank you for sharing! This seems like a lovely place to stay 🙂 I enjoy the fountain but i understanding wanting to be careful with books

  11. я конечно не побываю во всех местах, что вы показали. Но надеюсь увидеть страну эту, хоть кусочками.

  13. yaaaayyyyy! my favorite channel! i always look forward to new videos! i especially like watching the different dining experiences!

  14. Japan is always so unique. I have an appointment booked to renew my passport in a week because I am determined to visit Japan later this year.
