A day trip from Osaka. Himeji Castle is often called the White Heron Castle. It is untouched from wars, earthquakes, and fires. One of the best castles to visit in Japan. Well worth the trip.

Solid, how has that never been in an earthquake?? Crazy
Thanks so much for that. I was there last week on my final day in Japan. I visited a number of castles while in Japan but Himeji Castle was outstanding. Very helpful and friendly local volunteers were so happy to explain aspects of the exhibits. For a very small cost the ticket included entry into the magnificent Japanese garden a few hundred metres away. Highly recommended. Can't wait to return.

It 's refreshing to see it less crowded and a peaceful visit for you. I went during cherry blossoms and it was crawling with tourists. Love your samurai-ish music in the leadup to the castle!
