In the heart of Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park, particularly in the Rest House, which is the basement of the former Fuel Hall, among the many poignant testimonies, I stumbled upon a drawing that spoke volumes. This evocative piece, titled “Naked Man Fallen on the Bridge,” was crafted by Mr. Eizo Nomura, the remarkable sole survivor of the Fuel Rationing Control Union employees on that fateful day – August 6, 1945.

As I gazed at the artwork, I felt transported back in time, to the eerie half-light of that tragic day. Mr. Nomura’s words, etched alongside his illustration, vividly describe the chaos and devastation he witnessed. The image of a naked man, arms outstretched, trembling as flames consumed the bridge, is a haunting reminder of the horrors of the atomic bombing.

This drawing, now a part of Hiroshima’s history, serves as a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a call for a world free from such devastation. 🌏🕊️
