Today didn’t go exactly to plan.
The other night in Braga we were approached by a couple of university age girls, very similar scenario to the start of this video, they gave us a big talk about how they were raising money for a children’s cancer foundation by selling these discount books.
We thought nothing of it and actually thought they were doing something incredible because, who lies about children with cancer right?
After bringing this up with a new friend we made in Bandung, he told us with absolute certainty that this was a scam and the books don’t actually get you anything, they’re all fake.
This has not put a dampener on our trip, we love Indonesia, we love the people and the incredible culture that this country has, it has just reminded us to be more aware.
In lighter news, Paris Van Java mall was actually incredible, the rooftop is definitely worth checking out and if you’re any decent at ice skating, check out the rooftop ice skating ring!

I have similar experience in one of the mall in Jkt today. A young girl approach me and said that she’s from one of the uni asked if she can give a small presentation bla bla bla. It’s a lie. I gave her 20 k and refused to buy the bag for the charity for 100 k. It’s concerning.
It has gone viral on social media, they have carried out their actions in several locations in Bandung, most at the train station, don't believe charity on the street. Indonesia has its own institution or website for charity

Scammers who ask people to buy their books for charity are common in Jakarta as well, the words from her phone is exactly same. If this is true for charity, we should be free to give however much we truly want without having to worry about exceeding to a fixed amount. I usually ignore them because I know the donations do not go to the organization but instead go into their pockets. Additionally, they can be impolite sometimes by cursing at us if we don't give to them with reason why we are able to shop at supermarkets but can't donate to charity.
I do appologize with that scam situation. It's really sad cause the scammers do the modus in the Mall, that's crazy.

It's a scam, they only benefit themselves… even the purpose of the donation is not clear. I've been scammed 5 times at the Bandung train station…. please just refuse and be more careful next time !
there is to many kind of scam in west java.. the worst place to visit in indonesia.. wait until you go to tangkuban perahu 😅 idk why, but most of west java people seems to lazy to work, and choose to scamming people instead, not just towards foreigner, they scam they own kind too…
