Auburn and Newtown are the place to be for a good Turkish cuisine which include Turkish street food and desserts and these are halal food options here in Sydney. We started the Turkish food tour by eating some of the traditional food like hot meze: Kizartma (eggplant, zucchini, capsicums on tomato sauce and yoghurt), Icli Kofte (minced lamb meatball with bulgur), cold meze: Atom and Simit (Turkish bagel with yoghurt, chilli butter), Muhammara (roasted red peppers with sumac), Sucuk Pide (Turkish beef sausage with egg), Lahmacun (Turkish pizza with beef mince, onion, spices) and of course Turkish coffee.
After the mouthwatering lunch, we continued to Newtown to an ice cream shop called Hakiki for their chewy Turkish ice cream. There are many options but we opted for the classic flavour: sour cherry.
For dinner, we headed down west towards Auburn, a big in Turkish Australian community. There are many kebab shops along the street of Auburn but we opted to try New Star Kebab Family Restaurant for their Iskender Kebab and Mixed Shish Kebab. This kebab shop feels very much like a family own business. The staff were very friendly and if this is what you expect Turkey would be like then we cant wait to feast our mouth on Istanbul, Turkey delicious street food.
To end our epic day of eating, we tried Gaziantep most famous dessert, the Pistachio Baklava and Kadayif from Gaziantep Sweets in Auburn.
So if you are wondering where to eat in sydney, then we hope we got you covered today.

“If you’re vegetarian, you should order this. If you’re not vegetarian, you should order this”

That yogurt and sauce on top of the meat look like heaven. Yes, Helmi is like Maria when it comes to dessert. Hhaha We have a place very similar to that one close to our apartment. Great choices guys.
Ah, so you're secretly Turkish, Nick Effendi?

Wow what an awesome restaurant
Hi Nick & Helmi what is this restaurant called ?
Thankyou
Love how you guy's describe the food sound so nice.
Effendi is the equivalent to Sir or Lord. Iskander is the Turkish version of Alexander. Love Turkish food.
Iskander probably entered Turkish names from Alexander the Great, who spent a fair bit of time there, a while back.
Thank you for sharing your video.

Thank you so much for this video. Turkish cuisine is wonderful. I have been a school teacher for 25 year in American international schools and have retired from that field. My next venture is opening a Turkish restaurant in my city. There are none.
I must try this
As them if they could make Tarator. I bet my Aussie mates will love it so much.
