Sujawan Dev Prayagraj or sujavan dev mandir is located at village bheeta ghoorpur Prayagraj on the bank of Yamuna river about 3 km west from Ghoorpur. There is a temple of Shankar and Yamuna, the sister of Yam, built in the river.
A rock 18 mts. in height can be seen lying erect in the course of River Yamuna. A temple of Sujavan Dev existed on the rock till 1645. Shaista Khan, Subedar of Allahabad, destroyed that in the same year and replaced it with octagonal canopy. An inscription in Persian on the walls of the canopy also confirms it. Later on Shivling was installed in the canopy. On the other side of the rock, idols of Pandavas are installed. A small statue of Buddha can also be seen near ghat. A Shiva temple 100 mts. from Sujavan Dev is also located on a mound.
Bhita is located just 18km from Prayagraj, and is an ancient site on the banks of Yamuna where Lord Buddha penanced and gave sermons to his followers. This ancient site also had a fortified city of Skandgupta, named Vichchigram, which dates back to the Mauryan and Gupta period. The ruins of this fortified city exist even today and have been kept under control by the Archaeological Survey of India. The ancient temple of Sujawan Devta (a shiva temple) is also located here.
A scene of superhit movie OMKARA staring Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgan, Bipasa Basu and Vivek Oberoi was shooted here at this location.
