  1. Man, kudos for being so chill about it. I understand it's a business, but canceling someone's cruise because they want to accept only higher fares is just unfair imo.

  2. So are you going to punish them for a couple of years and sail with someone else?

  3. Go to MSC Meraviglia. I want to know what you think about cheapest cruiseline?

  4. I'm so sorry about what happened! The same thing happened to my parents for the voyage in October 2023 on the Celebrity Millennium. Has there been any updates from Celebrity on the air fare or accommodations?

  5. Hey Zach, We are right there with you. This is our 4th cancellation on this same Japan cruise.
Hope to see you on one some day.

  6. I'm surprised you don't have travel insurance Zach. . We buy an annual policy from Allianz and with just one event, we got our premium back. I hope it all works for you.

  7. This has certainly made me think twice about ever booking with Celebrity.

  8. I would be pissed bc airfare is
Not cheap right now especially flying over to Japan. To be canceled twice by Celebrity is unusual. I hope you can get some of that airfare back.

  9. Sorry this happened. I have appreciated your candor and insights. I agree with others who have recommended to continue your visit to Japan.

  10. That sucks! I hope you get your money back! Take Celebrity Solstice on September 22 from Vancouver to Hawaii!!

  11. I think the land trip in Japan is better than cruise trip, the railway system in Japan is very good. If you had never been to Japan, you should do the land trip first, buy a JR pass 14 or 21 days in Aug or Sep, because JR company will raise the price 65% on Oct.

  12. This is awful, so sorry this happened to you. This is really disappointing behavior from Celebrity. My guess is they canceled all of the old bookings, to make room for the new/higher priced bookings.

  13. This stinks! I would go check to see if they are still selling any cabins at all for that ship and date.

  14. Your Lucy
They canceled my Japan cruise 2023 and did not let me know
They gave me my money back but it came it bits and pieces. Did not realize it was cancel. I was still getting fcc and money from covid issues
Just getting ready to book hotels and air fare
Just by luck I found out
Celebrity and captains club did nothing for me
    So sad so sorry
I’m sailing right not on regal princess

  15. Celebrity Cruise did same to us yesterday and cancelled our Celebrity Millenium departing from Yokohama on Oct 24. We were travelling to Japan with another couple. Their cruise was not cancelled. We are now considering what to do. The $500 for flight cost they are offering does not even come close to cover the cost of our flights from Canada. We have only cruised with Celebrity for the past 10 years. I guess they no longer want our business going forward.

  16. Very sorry to hear this. Thanks for sharing your experience and the options that Celebrity provided. We're on the Sep. 15 Trans Pacific on Millie. We were lift-and-shifted from the Solstice in 2022. We got a good deal on this cruise and have flights/hotels that are already booked. We haven't been cancelled and I did double-check that we still have our booking, whew!

  17. There is no rhyme or reason. We were also lifted and shifted. My cousin and brother were canceled. We were not, although we were in the same group. I, personally, will bit take another celebrity cruise.

  18. Sorry to hear. I came across this video because my parents told me that their trip from celebrity cruises was also cancelled. I see in the comments that a lot of recommendations are to keep the airefare(which they've already booked as well) and still do Japan. Unfortunately they are much older and were really looking forward to do the cruise and are no super disappointed. I find it wild that it took them so long to realize they had overbooked. To me, its not really an excuse that a glitch caused this. I wouldn't be surprised if its a way for them to just sit on a bunch of cash and they can invest that money how they want. I feel like they should get penalized by the government if they continue to oversell seeing its not the first time.

  19. I am a victim of this cancellation as well. Also booked non-refundable fares for party of 4. Wonder if it is a genuine technical issue .

  20. Cancel single occupancy and put 3 or 4 people in the same cabin. Celebrity make a little more money on this sailing. Will those who were cancelled return. Unlikely.

  21. Same boat, notified by celebrity on April 21 evening. Originally booked on Celebrity Solstice, got lift and shift for Oct 2023 sailing. However, I only got 1 option, which is an automatic downgrade from my triple occupancy balcony to oceanview room with $700 OBC for the stateroom. Price difference between oceanview and balcony is $1900 CAD in Oct 2024 as a reference. This is an unfair compensation. Works out $233 obc/head for the downgrade and not even an adjustment to cruise fare. Also booked independent air. I have sailed with Celebrity multiple times and is an Elite. Total disappointment on how they treat loyal customers unfairly. All they said is at prevailing oceanview rate (all perks) is more than my balcony all perks rate, so no fare adjustment will be made.

  22. The forums on Cruisecritic say that some people were told by Celebrity reps that the problem happened because when they did previous "lift and shifts", it didn't remove the cabins from inventory, resulting in them being resold. Another person was told some cabins were triple booked. There are people who have multiple booked cabins for a group, where only some of them have been canceled. Some people have been upgraded, others are being forced to downgrade. It's clearly an issue affecting large numbers of people. Four of the cruises next Spring are "code red" and marked as "closed" (not just sold out). If it is true that it was an IT error, it's unbelievable that the problem wasn't caught earlier. This month it was announced that Celebrity Cruises’ President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo is transitioning to Vice Chair, External Affairs, and Dondra Ritzenthaler, head of sales, is retiring. Coincidence? I wish someone would dig into this and find out what's really going on.

  23. Cancelled cabins can sometimes be due to planned maintenance with cabins or the cabins in use for workers. We met a team on millenium doing that. Contractors dont stay in crew areas.

  24. Here is a good random question. What if you didn’t have an annual insurance plan. You booked the cruise insurance with that cruise, they canceled your cruise, which probably canceled the insurance you had on that cruise. Who would reimburse that airfare?

  25. Sorry for you. We have also been cancel 4 times. Once because costa sold their ship venecia. But there is a lot happening with prices and changing cabin, drinkspacket ond so on. Sad when we liked it as it was before the pandemi. But i surpose they fights for Their life

  26. Hi Zach, we were cancelled on the March 28 2024 Japan sailing in what appears to be a significant event with numerous people reporting cancellations on the Celebrity Japan cruises from your sailing in 2023 through April 9 2024 (9 cruise). There appears to be no common thread as people on all decks, staterooms and costs are being cancelled. Celebrity has been silent through the whole event which further degrades confidence in the cruise line and future bookings.
There is a tread on cruise critic boards call Japan Canceled with significant details on what’s happening. There are a lot of unhappy people because Celebrity chose not to take the volunteer approach before forced cancellations.
We have chosen to take a land tour due to a lack of confidence in Celebrity for another lift and shift.

  27. Zach, We are booked on The Beyond, a Transatlantic the end of October this year. I’m sorry this happened to you! That really sucks. 😢. I hope we don’t fly all the way to Rome just to find out it’s cancelled. We are in a Magic Carpet Sky Suite. We just got off the Apex a week ago. It was very awesome! We loved dinner in the Eden.

  28. We were cancelled once on a RCCL cruise because of some sports event. They rented out the entire ship to sports fans!

  29. hi, I’m sorry this happened to you! I would be upset also. Question, do you recommend getting the insurance through the cruise line itself or outside insurance reason I asked is because from what I understand, if there’s a medical emergency and you have to be airlifted off of the ship it is not covered by the cruise line. From what I understand it is covered from outside insurance . Also, outside insurance will pay to fly you home if necessary as cruise lines will not.

  30. You’d think that they’d have noticed by now that you’re not only a regular but a cruise vlogger who has driven a ton of people to their cruise line with your other glowing reviews and maybe tried to either keep your booking or at least incentivize you better than this. I bet that this video has probably dissuaded at least a hundred people who would have seriously been considering booking a Japan cruise with Celebrity to not book that cruise, and that your previous videos extolling their virtues as a cruise line probably drove them hundreds of bookings or more. I know I love your videos! Right now I live vicariously until I can afford to cruise again but I appreciate your honesty on all these videos and your Carolina accent makes me feel right at home. Also I agree with the folks who said you should consider going to Japan anyway and getting the train pass, if you can afford to do so. Definitely a country worth exploring in depth.

  31. wow this is unfortunate,, I have an upcoming Japan cruise in Celebrity Millenium on October 12th 2023, I bought it in early 2022 , and I have not received any cancelation notice.
I have to say that I booked a Sky suite maybe you are right and the lower cabins were the ones chosen , I don't know , just checked again in the webpage and my reservation is there, my shore excursions are already paid and confirmed so I think I am good to go.
As many mentioned you should not cancel your flight and you should travel the country on railroad, amazing country I went for my honeymoon,

  32. that sucks to just bump you off. I was cancelled multiple times due to Covid, but that affected everyone booked on the ship. Have you thought about Holland America? They have some beautiful new ships and are prob the best competition to Celebrity. I plan to sail on her this year.

  33. Really sorry to hear. I really wish they could have given you more details as to why. Perhaps the bearer of bad news was not privileged to that info. Curious to know if you were confirmed in an actual cabin number? Makes me so leery about book Japan for September 2024 Japan on the Millennium!!! Saw someone else post a very similar youtube. Just don't know how they could double book the same exact room, so that's why I ask.

  34. Another Cancellation – Celebrity just cancelled all Beyond cruises for next year. They said they were pleased to announce it will be relocated to the Caribbean??!!! I got offered $100 onboard credit per stateroom. Very rude company. Wow.

  35. If you're not able to find another sailing with a different line from Japan around the same time, I would suggest you keep the airline reservations and just do a deep dive land based vacation in Japan. Celebrity isn't the special premium cruise line that it used to be. I would definitely branch out and try the other lines.

  36. What you've suggested is exactly what's happened. Cruise lines are just looking at the bottom line at the moment, with customer service not being at the top of the list anymore. From a customer service POV, they wouldn't have cancelled you, because they know you've already been cancelled before. From a bottom line POV, you're one of the people that's paid the least, so you're the ones that's going to get bumped, to keep the margin for the cruise as high as possible. So, the best thing is to lift and shift, because that's by far the cheapest way of getting your next cruise, BUT if they continue to oversell and bumped the least paying bookings, then you're never going to get to go on a cruise. Cruising is unfortunately in a sad state of affairs
