青森県の秘湯、酸ヶ湯温泉を訪問してきました。
八甲田連峰の麓にある総客室数139の巨大な湯治宿。その6割は湯治棟で占められ、長期滞在を前提とした湯治客が多く訪れる有名宿です。
ヒバ千人風呂と呼ばれる日本最大級の混浴風呂と共に硫黄の匂いの強いpH1.8とあれる強酸性の湯はこれぞ温泉といった素晴らしい泉質。3度入浴しましたが短期の滞在でも癒されました。昼は八甲田でトレッキング、その後宿で体を癒す。そんな形で利用される方も多いのだそうです。
300年以上の歴史の中で酸ヶ湯温泉は様々な有名人から愛され特に世界的な版画家・棟方志功氏が湯治を行いながら宿で作品を作っていたことで知られています。私もいつかゆっくりと湯治客としてこの酸ヶ湯温泉で湯治を行うことが夢になりました。

I visited Sukayu Onsen, a secret/secluded hot spring/onsen in Aomori Prefecture.
A huge hot spring inn with a total of 139 guest rooms located at the foot of the Hakkoda mountain range. It is a famous inn that is visited by many hot spring bathers who intend to stay for a long period of time as “TOJI”.
“TOJI” is the traditional therapeutic bathing method in Japan, it is said that it heals body through long stay bathing hot spring.
The bath is known as Hiba Senninburo, one of the largest mixed bathing baths in Japan, and the strongly acidic water with a pH of 1.8 with a strong sulfur smell is truly a hot spring. I took a bath three times, and even though I was only there for a short time, I was healed so much. Trek in Hakkoda during the day, then relax at the hotel. It seems that there are many people who are used in such a way.
With a history of more than 300 years, Sukayu Onsen has been loved by various celebrities, and is particularly known for the world-famous printmaker Shiko Munakata, who created works at the inn while healing (TOJI) in the hot springs. It has become a dream of mine to one day slowly go to Sukayu Onsen as a hot spring cure guest.
