This is out first day travelling in two motorhomes on a 4 week adventure that takes us to both North and South islands. However day one challenges us with landslides and road closures and we suddenly realise how tough its been recently with unusual weather fronts battering New Zealand. We finally reach Hot Water Beach campsite and start to discover the raw elements there as well as fantastic coastal walk to Cathedral Cove where a famous film was shot.

Wow, you really did have poor weather, it looks so different in fine weather and when the tide is out at both the hot water beach and cathedral beach.
I think the weather was trying to make you feel at home lol. Some lovely locations though that must be stunning in the sunshine. Those landslides must have been scary to go through.
We were worried for your safety as the UK was getting all the reports of the devastation caused by the storm. Baptism of fire new van, new country and a big storm all at once 😁👍

Hi, unfortunately the Coromandel region was smashed this winter with rain and is known for ongoing slips. And yes our camp grounds are very expensive to stay at which is disappointing. We have a club called the NZCMA that many motorhomes and campervaners are members of so much cheaper but without the facilities. Also freedom camping is popular.
Think a trip of south korea in this time.
Have watched your videos for a long time, enjoyed everyone. Your latest on going to NZ, is a real treat as after a year in Australia we are about to return to Auckland. You have shown us what we missed, don't stop enjoying the journey, Cheers Rick and Pam

You were lucky to get over 25A it's still no where opened even now, I've been down twice, to Thames since then to visit my brother and his family.
Delighted ye managed to switch over plans too suit. Beautiful beaches, especially the one from Narnia. It was good ye could have time though to adjust. Amazing how small the world is re the driver. Thanks for sharing the great adventure.
What walkie talkies are you using
It's 20 years since we went, but at the time there was a good discount to be had if you flew south to Queenstown and picked up the motorhome there and drove it North back to Auckland.
Lits of folk at that time started at Auckland and left tbe van in the south.
So the rental companies give a good discount for paying customers to drive them back up, ranther than having to fly employees down and pay them to bring the vehicle back to base. Worth checking out, anyway.
