Japanese Onigiri Rice Balls made at this Tokyo hidden gem shop in Jujo Ginza. Today I’m taking you behind the counter for a Tokyo food tour at my favorite speciality onigiri, Japanese Rice ball shops in Tokyo, Kamataya. Hidden behind the Jujo Ginza Shotengai on a side street, about a 5 minutes walk from Jujo Ginza station, this onigiri lover’s paradise has been warming the heart’s of customers while also filling their stomachs with a unique variety of their culinary delights for over half a century. And of course, I’m going into their kitchen to show how it’s all made. To maintain the shop’s high quality standards, the shop carefully selects the best rice made in Japan each year to use in their onigiri, but with more than 800 rice cultivators in the country, it could be quite a task. I guess that what it takes make some the best onigiri in Japan. When Soeno san started, the shop wasn’t doing well, so he decided to add Shrimp Tempura Onigiri to their menu and it was a hit. Motivated by the success and his natural passion to create, he soon found himself in the onigiri business with an expansive menu of over 50 different types of onigiri even crafting seasonal items drawing inspiration from the season’s vegetables and proteins available on the market. All of this, motivated by his secret Joy in seeing his customer’s satisfied reactions.

  1. @paolo can you do a video on the suica card and app? I'm a foreigner (US), Iknow they suspended the cards as of june 8 2023. Can you do a walkthrough for the app? i heard that it may/may not work for foreigners. Can you give some insights? Thanks

  2. I love how Paolo always slips in one or two fancy phrases like "Sweet bees!" in his videos <3

  3. The Japanese traditional family system of working together and living together is beautiful. I wish they preserve it. Having elder parents at home is not a burden but a necessity and a manner of pride.

  4. Japanese with their pets (animals)? Enjoyed the video, now if i could only remember them, if and when, I ever get to Japan. If not, I got a peek at every day life in Japan.

  5. So interesting! Thank you Paolo, this is hard work since you have to be up so early in the morning and spend a long day with the business. Japanese people are super hard working. Remarkable.

  6. I like it when they have English on the name tag. I will for sure visit if I ever go to Japan again.

  7. $1.84 cents for hand made Onigiri! Not fair lol I would have that any day of the week rather than corporate America's processed fast food which cost $10+

  8. When you do not get tired or worry about vacation, you know you are doing something you love to do 💕

  9. I hate it when places like this put barely any salmon inside the rice ball or onigiri. What a waste of money for the customers on a mouth full of stupid rice and no protein
