Dating back to the mid-19th century, Queen Street is one of Auckland’s oldest streets, named after Queen Victoria. It stretches from Customs Street to Karangahape Road, linking the city’s extremities and tracing the evolution of Auckland’s transportation.
Today, Queen Street is a vibrant commercial district in downtown Auckland, with a mix of retail stores, eateries, and bars. It hosts major companies, prominent banks, insurance firms, and universities, contributing to a substantial student population.
Queen Street also serves as a crucial transportation hub with multiple bus lines, and houses the Britomart Transport Centre. The street is a hub for city events and cultural activities, boasting cinemas, theatres, art galleries, and a blend of historic and modern architecture.

Queen St used to be a thriving and vibrant main street lined with interesting shops and side streets filled with cafes and restaurants. It is now a soulless dump, utterly neglected by Auckland Council, and strangled to death by Auckland Transport. RIP.
