Hi Everyone,

On April 1, 2023, Uncle Warren, Reid and I attended the memorial service for all those lost from the tsunami on April 1, 1946. They also honored the class of 1952 with a tree planting and monument, which was the last class to graduate from the old campus before the new one was built.

I’ve been to Laupahoehoe Point many times with my family however I feel very honored to have been able to attend this service and hear the stories of the survivors.

As always, thank you so much for watching.

Cari

  1. This place give me chicken skin! Last time we were down there my dad was with us and we were there for a family reunion in Hilo and we stopped here on the way out to Pa'auilo where my dad grew up to visit his friends. While we were there a guy with a small shave ice truck drove in and we had to get some shave ice from him! I get sad when I think about what happened to see the names and hear stories. I can feel this energy there… anyways thanks for sharing! Mahalo!

  2. Thanks for sharing! I shared this on the LHS Alumni page. The stories were wonderful and you captured it all!

  3. Thank you for filming and sharing this! It's amazing to hear their experiences, and great to see them still thriving 🙂 I havent spent time in Laupahoehoe, but it looks like a beautiful place! My family is from Hilo.

  4. I love your videos! We "spoke" about two years ago or so on YouTube. I'm on Big Island, plantation family also. I remember your laulau video, Carl Ignacio was mentioned by your grandpa, he's family. My family is also from Laupahoehoe, Meyer. Meyer, Stevens, Ignacio and more. We grew up in Paauhau, another plantation camp, right outside of Honokaa (where Tex drive inn is). Your videos remind me of what my family used to be like but as family members passed we do our own thing. Food and family. Keep up with your videos. You have a beautiful family and you all look so comfortable to be around. Thank you
