In perhaps the most unlikely location anywhere, in the jungle off the highway to the north of Bangkok, there’s a brand-new ice rink where a ragtag collection of ice hockey players gather for games alongside young Thai prodigies and overseas pros, attracted by this most incongruous of sports.

And perhaps the most famous hockey name of them all, Tom Stastny- cousin, son, and nephew of five NHL stars and a former high-level pro in his own right- isn’t inside the rink as much as just outside, where he’s built perhaps the best donut shop anywhere on the continent.

To understand Tom Stastny’s perfect donuts, we have to delve into the wild world of Thai ice hockey, the people that held the culture together during the lean years, the epic characters involved in the game, the idea of “community” and how even the unlikeliest of cultures can thrive given the right environment…and the right donut.

  1. Very nice…..being from the south, hockey wasn’t really on my radar, but I love the community feel and how food tied in to this video……I’m sure it’s a great way to escape the heat

  2. How does one nominate a place or chef for Michelin star status? Seems like a great cultural and culinary spot!

  3. Love this video. If i pass by i will try it and watch the game. Please keep doing it…

  4. Great episode! Really well written. The last episode had the plot twist of the theme park. This whole episode was a plot twist! I had not heard of Thai hockey. I really enjoyed the storytelling and videography.

  5. Also, his method of forming the donuts started to remind me of the donuts at Gasthof Schweiger at first. The flattening part then making an indentation. Everything after that is very different, of course. Still different from the straight cut out or extruded donuts that are most common.

  6. Nice story👍 The funny ting is you reminded me when I was a kid my parent often took me to ate grilled chicken, at the alley next to Rajadumnean Stadiun so many time. 😂😂😂

  7. You guys are lucky to have a good place to buy a donut around here all we have is Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts and they are sometimes sold at my neighborhood
7-11 store down the street from my house… One day I went there and I told the cashier to ring up an éclair for me and she did not know what that was… So sad 😥🍩
