Hello! Today we can see one of the most popular touristic destination in Japan! This small Island saw more than 4,5 million visitors in 2019. The population of the Island is only about 1500 residents. This place is known for the famous UNESCO World Heritage Shrine. Let’s explore this place together!

Itsukushima (more known as Miyajima) is an island in the western part of the Inland Sea of Japan, located in the northwest of Hiroshima Bay. Miyajima means “Shrine Island”. It is famous for the giant Torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. This shrine is a National Treasure of Japan and it is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We can get to the Island by shuttle boat from Hiroshima. On the island there are: Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples, forest and mountain trails, parks and shopping streets.

Senjokaku is the common name of Hokoku Shrine. The name describes the size of the building, approximately the size of one thousand tatami mats. The big hall from 1587, is situated on a hill beside Itsukushima Shrine. A five-storied pagoda was built sooner than shrine, in 1407.
