It’s our first official day in Sapporo, and we are exploring the exciting city known as Japan’s winter wonderland! We woke up to a bone-chilling -10 degree temperature, but that actually fueled our excitement further knowing too well that it’s full blown winter.
Our first stop is the iconic Sapporo TV Tower, where I was blown away by the breathtaking views of the city from the observation deck at night. I could see the entire lit up cityscape laid out before me, with snow-covered streets and bustling shopping districts stretching as far as the eye could see. The platform is a bit shaky though, so be prepared when you go up, especially when there’s constant movement of people on the floor.
Next up was the Sapporo Clock Tower, which serves as a symbol of the city’s rich history and culture. This is so close to the Sapporo TV Tower. As we explored this incredible landmark, we learned about its significance and how it was used in the past, as well as its role as a museum today.
But the highlight of our day was undoubtedly the Sapporo Beer Museum, where we had the opportunity to sample some of the museum’s renowned beer concoctions and indulge in some delicious local cuisine. From miso ramen to grilled mutton Genghis Khan, the flavors of Sapporo were truly unforgettable. I also had the urge to buy that one massive beer mug for a souvenir, reasonably priced at Y1,100. The beer mug is obviously heavy that you need both hands to hold and drink from it.
And despite the cold weather, the warmth and hospitality of the locals made us feel right at home. The unique blend of modern amenities and traditional charm was the perfect recipe for an unforgettable travel experience. Sapporo truly has something for everyone, and we can’t wait to see what else this amazing city has in store for us.
