Kumusta YouTube fam,

Welcome to a new episode here in the beautiful city of Manila the Philippines. Throwback to 4 months ago when we first came to the Philippines, the first Filipino dish that we were introduced to is the “best soup in the world”, sour soup Sinigang. Sinigang is a Filipino soup or stew characterized by its sour and savoury taste. It is most often associated with tamarind, although it can use other sour fruits and leaves as the souring agent. It is one of the more popular dishes in Filipino cuisine. The soup is usually accompanied by rice. After settling into our apartment, we finally are ready to take on a Sinigang cooking challenge.

We invited our friend Joy who can also speak fluent Russian, she is able to communicate fluently in Russian with Alina which is a bonus, to teach us how to cook traditional Filipino Sinigang. We first met up at BGC Landmark to grab all the ingredients necessary for making the soup then we started cooking Sinigang for 1.5 hours.

Join us as we teach you how to make Sinigang!

  1. 41:55 yes, eggplants is prone to worms that means your eggplant which has worms has no pesticides applied while it's in the garden. 😁✌️

  2. If you want to add more flavor to the pork, you can stir fry it until slightly brown then add onions and tomatoes before adding the water for the soup. But yeah, the way she taught you is the easiest way to cook sinigang. ❤🇵🇭

  3. Sorry that's not worm from soil, that is worm from insect, like larva develop to butterfly just like that 😁 so don't worry 👍

  4. Dont worry about the worm. Just take out the part where the worm is. Its a sign that the vegetable is fresh. They did not put pesticide which is not good for us people to consume. Just dont panic, its all organic 🙂

  5. Suggestions: 1. Try it using beef short ribs! Much more tastier than pork. 2. Also put the rice into the soup broth rather than the other way around.

  6. Ate gurl baka naman po pwedeng hintayin mo muna maunang sumubo ang may ari ng bahay bago ka lumapang next time. Basic basic po.

  7. Hi po if you cut the long beans…aka…sitaw u have to cut it for likebite size not too big so that easy to bite.or chew.even the kangkong.

  8. the pork juices adds to the taste. just removing the impurities using a spoon is much better. or use a strainer to remove impurities.

  9. Talong is really prone to vegetable worms. If there is no worm they probably use pesticides to keep the worms away.

They say sesame oil is best use at the end of the cooking. Add it after puting the fire off.

Taro sinigang is not that sour. What makes it sour was the tomatoes. The sour sinigang is the tamarind sinigang. For me I prefer the tamarind than taro but some people like taro sinigang. Next time you can use the Tamarind sinigang mix instead of the Taro. It's really good if you put lots of tomatoes and the green chili pepper makes the soup a little bit of spicy which is a lot better. Many people like their sinigang to be sour that have a kick of spicy in it.

  10. I will tell you something, worm in vegi is normal and that is the indication that the vegi is organic if you cut vegi ang you wont see worm inside it means that the vegi grows in the help of chemical and pesticide.

  11. The spare Long green chili peppers can be cooked qnd made into Dynamite snack ( stuffed with ground pork, pepper, salt, garlic, and cheese is applicable). 😏

Eggplant with worms means it's organic. Yes, just cut the rotten parts and the worms. 😂😂

  12. i like this vlog its fun and lot of learning sharing different experiece ,culture its worth to taste sinigang

  13. 41:30 yeah normal to find bugs or "worms" in fresh veggies here in PH. It's an indication that the veggie was not subjected to insecticides, but rather grown organically — which makes it better in my opinion, as oppose to perfect looking vegetables but were subjected to toxic chemicals. The tiny insect larvae inside are not harmful anyway, just remove them and it's good.

  14. All time favorite Filipino dish is Sinigang. ❤ Sometimes, we use to dip it in fish oil with calamansi juice and chili, you can try it if you want some extra taste to your sinigang. Please try Beef Calderata and Lumpiang Shanghai, too! 😊

  15. Tamarind powder is a no no for me, it has a lot of artificial acidity in the ingredients. I always use the real tamarind. Its not so hard to boil and mash it

  16. There's a lot of variety of cooking sinigang, it may varies if you use fish, beef or pork and chicken ii you prefer to try it. Our country is divided by various islands and consists of different dialects that is why we have different outlook for cooking. We also had influenced from our colonists way of cooking, the Spanish and Americans…and Japanese too.

  17. Hoy ALINA, the way you hold and use the knife makes me uneasy… PLS watch NINONG RY on how to hold the knife…
