Hieizan (比叡山) literally means “Hiei Mountain.” Calling it “Hieizan Mountain” is the equivalent of saying “Hiei Mountain Mountain.” The English translation of Hieizan is simply Mt. Hiei. Just like Mt. Fuji is Fujisan in Japanese. I had a geology teacher in college who called Mt. Fuji, “Mount Fuji Yama San.” One day I couldn’t stand it any more and explained to her after class that she kept calling Mount Fuji the equivalent of, “Mountain Fuji Mountain Mountain,” lol. Random anecdote aside, nice video. It looks like a fantastic experience. 😀
