As I continued exploring the city of Nairobi, Kenya, my guides took me to one of the city’s poorest areas, Kibera—the largest urban slum in Africa. In this video, we’re going to explore this neighborhood, meet the locals, and learn about some of the challenges they face living here.

Joining me are my guide Obed from Kumbukumbu Tours, as well as my friend and cameraman Tasos.

KIBERA: There’s a flurry of activity in this bustling neighborhood. We started with lentil samosas sold by a street vendor, and then tried some githeri, which is a mix of beans and corn. From there, we met a woman selling delicious sweet chapatis, visited a local man’s home, and a local bar.

  1. More poverty porn from white dude, you people love to show the lowest of Africa, you do the same with black people in America, only showing crimes or negativity, there are poor white people in the world too, why don't you advertise that

  2. Its great to see your attitude my friend and you tour of Kibera. Keep going great to see you in Kenya. Watching from Minnesota

  5. my best bro david looking handsome thank you for your huge respect against cpec friendship countries lot of love from your best bro viki 💙

  6. Not the largest slum in Africa by any stretch of imagination but great content all the same. There are 200,000 people in Kibera as per the last censors. The other interesting fact is that there are more than 2000 NGOs working in the area.

  7. Samosa went to Africa very late.but the trains were introduced by the Britishers. They took the skilled labours to Africa and caged them. They are forced to work without remuneration or relief or good life.
When any workers fell ill they simply fed them to the hungry lions.

  8. 👳👮We see your hanging out with our Black and Brown people in Africa, David!!! 👮👳God Bless you our Brother David!!! You do such an ABSOLUTE AMAZING JOB!!!😆👏👏👏👊👊👊✊✊✊💪💪💪🌞🌞🌞🌟🌟🌟🏆🏆🏆🏆🏅🏅🏅🏅💛💚❤♥👑🌴🌳🍜🍚🍅🍖🍗🍠🍤🦀🐙🐌🌶🍄🍉🍊🍹🍡🏺🍽🍳🍵

  9. Great…just great….this is what the Portuguese and British colonialism left of this country and many more in Africa…..and then came the so called African Presidents to finish it off ….as a Moroccan, an African woman, makes me sick!!!!!!!
Nothing to do with the quality of your videos David, you are one of the kind!!
But watching this makes cry really…..

  10. Hi David, I enjoyed this video. A while back you asked for suggestions in regards to video content and this video made me recall that. The pacing of this video is faster than some of the others. Personally, I think your style is better geared toward a pace more in common with, say, Best Ever Food Review Show than Mark Wiens (though others may disagree). I wouldn't be surprised though if your watch % on this video was quite good. I think 12-18 minutes is probably the sweet spot for length. It's hard to keep pace up beyond that, and less than that means it's hard to keep up depth of content.

The egg guy and the porridge guy from video 1 were both interesting but I think it would have been more coherent if there had been a cut of different breakfast options around town or something of the sort–essentially a theming, similar to what BEFRS does on the second channel. Again this is just my opinion and others may disagree, ultimately you want to do what you're comfortable with and what brings you joy.

I'd also consider not releasing shorts ahead of the full videos, and if possible getting the full videos out sooner after the trip. This just keeps up momentum. BEFRS has a clever format with the trailer followed 24 hours later by the first video, culminating in all videos put together as one long video (easy extra views).

Note I say all of this as an utter amateur who has made no good videos.

  11. i really enjoy this video to see how people live. this was a great experience david you have such a big heart blessing up on you

  12. Born and grew up here
Came to America enlisted in the military
Proudly US Marine Vet Semper Fi 🇺🇸

  13. The people seem friendly and hard working, the children are happy. I would love to be in contact with the woman dress maker to order from her 🙂. It is although very disappointing that the Nigerian Government in colaboration with those outside Countries who come to Nigeria to use their land , resources and set up businesses to enrich themselves : together will not develop these slum areas with adequate housing, clean water supply, a garbage sanitation system and free education for the young. They certainly have enough people to be a workforce (over 200,000 people WOW )! Nigeria also has some very educated people that can spear head a plan of urban development and carry it out. What is worng with their government ?! I have always heard how corrupt the government officials and their police force are. If Nigerians would just have a change in their society to lift each other up, they could improve life in Shanty Towns like this one !

  14. STOP repeating the lie about "Largest slum" bla bla….this lie has been exposed and debunked severally. One of the best examples of how western media reporting distorts Africa's image horribly
