Question for ya’ll jdm car enthusiasts, would you get angry or triggered if any jdm vehicle gets an ls swap? switch the original engine with any ls v8 engines.

Doesn’t bug me, i plan to LS swap an fc3s in the near future

  2. AcrobaticHat6808

Not at all, engine swaps are pretty awesome

  3. goddamit-jesse

There are a lot of things to consider
1- was the factory engine unreliable or has a very low tuning potential?
2-does the factory engine not provide you the power you need?
3-is the engine too damaged and worn out to be used?

If even one of these accrues then ls swap is not really a bad thing tbh(i kinda love it even)
Like for some rx7s with completely blown up engines
Or the gt/gr86 with absolutely great chassis and beautiful car but low powered engine for something like more serious tracking or drift ,then it would be a great upgrade imo.

No, but it could be a non turbo anyway.

  5. LupoOfMainSt

I have an ls swapped 240sx planning to put a turbo on it

Pros: ls are everywhere and you can find them pretty easy vs waiting for a 2k jdm block then adding more.

Cons: money and the heaviness of it

Making 400 horses NA though is cheaper than building an sr20

  6. RestoSham09

I prefer smaller motors but I wouldn’t say that it upsets me. A sick build is a sick build. I will say that I can’t stand US Formula Drift throwing LS’s in 95% of platforms

  7. MrGetrekt101

People jz swap domestics so I see it as fair

  8. parmara121992

It’s fair game. Just don’t slam a classic on it nuts and we good 😂

  9. what-to_put_here

Why would I? It’s notably harder and often more impressive than stock so it’s cool.

I go to the track meets and we see a lot of this. I’ve seen supras, skylines, Silvia’s, chasers all with ls swaps because it’s just cheaper to build power that way… and there’s no nice way of saying this the ls can take the abuse longer…

The jdm tax has spread past obscene car prices to even mass increases in the parts cost. I’m considering doing it when my 26det next decides to be precious. My last rebuild cost a fortune compared to when I put the engine in the car 8 years ago not to mention some are becoming hard to find parts for locally.

It’s a case of if you want a fast road car to daily drive not constantly abuse yeah mod your stock engine… if you want to beat on it at the track every weekend ls swap is more economical.

‘they did this thing with that thing!”. You wouldn’t know it was weird if it was normal. Enjoy the novelty

  12. Tree1237

You know how many RX-7’s get corvette engines shoved in them?

  13. At the end of the day its your car and youll be the only person who drives it so who cares

  14. MaybeNovel

Ls is the most budget friendly easiest 1000+ hp engine you’ll find, coyotes are close 2nd

  15. Commercial_Remote_72

I think that you should mod your car as you want

  16. Technical_Egg226

That r32 would be fun so i dont mind

  17. snagglepuss_nsfl

Be cooler to have the soarer v8 shoehorned in there. I think Ls swaps for rx7s are appropriate but also rob the rx7 of what it is and just make another fast coupe.

  18. FahQueue2Budd

My R32 GTR is gettin twin turbo LS swapped because people selling rb’s are smoking crack and I’m not dumb enough to hand them 1000x what they are worth

  19. mamad021nobar

I do appreciate this kind of crazy car builds because of all of the creativity they present, remember the fact that the art of car customizing cars came from alcohol bootleggers who were trying to sell their products and now look where we are standing.

  20. MakkNero

Personally I get “angry” at a lot of swaps that I feel take away from the purity of some chassis.

I don’t like cross-manufacturer swaps period. Keep GM with GM. Toyota with Toyota. Etc.

I also think that older Hondas should maintain B Series motors instead of K swapping everything.

But ultimately it’s not my car or my money so fuck what I think 🤷🏾‍♂️

  21. Pleasant-Tackle7498

No it just means there’s a spare JDM engine to put in a Camaro

  22. Went to a car meet last week. There was a LS1 swapped MK3 supra and it was sick. If you get butt hurt you’re not a true car enthusiast

  23. Jojobuilt

Never really was bothered by LS Swaps, as long as it makes sense I wouldn’t mind. But if you take a perfectly good running engine like a 2JZGTE out instead of putting an LS in a Supra that had no motor in the first place idk its a little cringy but I’m not stopping you

  24. I think a properly dialed in silvia or 240 with a ls would be sick.

  25. KawasakiPurple

yea, not a fan. would go as far to say a conversation would be valueless.

could use it for utility, but i dont want hear about it.

and placement on my enthusiast ranking is irreparably lowered.

nothing wrong with people doing things, but not every painting is decent. & if i can spot fumbles it explains their processing, -dont respect all builds, merit when earned

  26. ZxEspro1

Will the car go bang bang skeet skeet? Will it sound as nice/er? I personally approve of such swaps. And also assuming it’s not my car I can’t say much abt their choice.

  27. shhmedium2021

They probably didn’t want to spend the $ on a Replacment 2jz because an is is cheaper and is a decent platform

  28. It would’ve been a nice touch if they had dropped a 1uz-fe in it.. Extra bonus points for a TRD supercharger upgrade.

  29. tacobellbandit

I’m pretty elitist when it comes to this and I think most JDM cars are better with OEM parts and some slight upgrades that don’t alter the car entirely, the only ones I really give a pass to personally are cars with notoriously problematic engines.

  30. You car. Your choice. Do you enjoy it? That’s the measure of it’s value. No need for outside validation.

  31. Kytoaster

As long as the owner enjoys it and cracks that shit eating grin when they start it/walk away from it…who cares?

  32. GoliathFish

It’s the body what matters to an extent. Don’t ruin it. I have a mr2

  33. officialTHREETWENTY

It only upsets me – JDM car or otherwise – if the recipient is a low mileage, largely original survivor. Keep those intact, but if you have a shell you’re putting back on the road or the old engine is royally broken, go for it and have fun.

  34. SyntheticElite

I’m pretty traditionalist and don’t like it, but I am not the arbiter of what everyone wants to do with their car, do whatever makes you happy.
