Spring in Japan means sakura. They start blooming in the south and work their way north for over a month. Not all sakura are created equal though. The mountain town of Takato-Cho in Nagano is home to the Ruins of Takato Castle Park, a place so full of sakura that it’s earned the name, “The Best Sakura Under Heaven.” Join me this time to see how true that claim is.
Besides gorgeous flowers, Nagano is home to the three highest mountain ranges in Japan. I’ll go to the highest point accessible by public transportation for some lines at the highest ski area in Japan, 9,000 feet up in the Central Japanese Alps. Ordinary is strictly prohibited whenever you’re Traveling on a Dime.
