I sometimes wonder if a double lobotomy was performed on Marine Steve and I while we slept… Sigh. Just write “Dumb and Dumber” on our foreheads and double check your baggage tag!

  1. I always check the names on the baggage tag but have encountered a similar goof up as you. I was flying EWR > LHR with 2 checked bags and when I go to baggage claim I see my bag hasn’t arrived after waiting by the conveyor by over 20 mins. Fearing the worst I had to the UA baggage service desk who scans my baggage tag and tells me I’m at the wrong conveyor. Turns out UA operates quite a few flights to LHR everyday from EWR and one of the flights was delayed so it arrived around the same time as my flight. You live and you learn, I suppose!

  2. Don't be too hard on yourself, Sheila. I fly a lot too but the same thing (almost) happened to me once. I flew LHR ORD on VS and adorned my generic looking suitcase with bright green ribbons on the top and side handle so it'd 'stand out'. A bag appeared on the belt just like mine with a VS priority tags AND the same coloured ribbons! I duly grabbed the bag and would have been in my hotel in downtown Chicago with it had the actual owner not been standing next to me and said, 'hey! I think that's mine!'. What's even more uncanny was that my bag appeared right after his so I was able to prove it was a 'case' of mistaken identity and not larceny! Enjoy your cruise! 🙂

  3. I am wondering if you have contemplated the other horrible possibility? Thank God the wrong suitcase did not have narcotics in it. But what rotten luck! Who would expect two suitcases of such distinctive colours?!!!

  4. Oh sheila what a mess, I'm so glad you can laugh about it, I mean, better than crying right? It gave me a good laugh, hope the cruise was lovely.

  5. Honey it happens more often than you’d think. I work for AF US baggage hotline for their 13 gate way cities. Yours is simple to when people find out, they have the wrong bags.

  6. At least the other person did not take yours! Question: Are you not required to take your bags through customs in HK?

  7. Not deliberate mistake. Don’t feel guilty Sheila. You should have been worn out and jet lagged. Kisses

  8. Being on the receiving end of this treatment earlier this year, it would have been nice to try to contact the owner of the bag you took to reunite them with their that same evening.

  9. I have a personalized handle wrap that I place on the handle of my bag so it's easy to spot!
