Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama in Kyoto, Japan has a total of 120 snow monkeys, also known as “Japanese Macaques”. This monkey park is one of the top things to do in Kyoto, and is lot less popular than the nearby attractions like the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Tenryu-ji, and more. Here is my complete tour and video guide of this famous Japan Monkey Park!

To reach Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayam, you need to cross over the Katsura River via the Togetsu-kyo Bridge. Then you will find the entrance to the monkey park, which requires you to hike 20-30 minutes up Mt. Arashiyama. The park is open from 9am-4pm and costs 550 yen ($4). Just make sure to follow the rules and tips that I outline in this video!

  1. Love that the macaques have their own slide. You two have great conditioning for these hikes. But the views from the top always seem worth it. Come on! You gotta keep more cash on you!
